Recommendation? I want to abuse my knife

So going through this thread and doing even more thinking I'm asking myself why on earth I need to use an expensive knife if I'm going to mistreat it. Truth told, I'm not going to mistreat it as I have a long history of knowing how to use a knife but it's using the knife that all of a sudden I have an issue with. I don't want to think twice about grabbing my knife which is where the whole nonsense came from. Years (many) ago I started my enlisted career with a Buck knife and a Swiss Army knife and they handled a lot of things that first four years. I still carry a SAK so why not just grab a Buck? So I did. I'd like a little nicer one but this is all I could find local. Been like a little kid all day looking for stuff to cut. I did use the Spyderco to open the Buck package though.

The 112 is a nice size. I have two of the traditional 112s & they get carried a lot. Here's mine for today:

Remove the clip and you have a pretty decent pocket knife.

I see you've already made your choice, but it's close to my suggestion, which is one of the Ka-Bar Dozier knives, or one of the tantos that are similar. Under $30, made in Taiwan instead of China, rock solid, and AUS-8 steel which is a step or two up from most knives you'd get at this price point. But your choice of the Buck 112 Slim is a great one. The 110/112 isn't my style, but for the price, warranty, and being made in the US of A....can't argue with that.

Being maxed out on my photo allowance has definitely simplified my life. 😂

I've always used postimages.org so this hasn't affected me so much, other than all these people delegating their pictures that I want to see.... :/

Got to playing with my green Buck 112 slim over the weekend, had fun, still cut and holding an edge. I also used my Mora Eldris to open a few packages for my daughter.

IMO , a clip is a necessity for any folder you might need to get hold of fast .

And merely more convenient and efficient , the rest of the time .

I have several large "RangerGrip" SAKs . I would carry them a lot more if they had clips .
I have a lot of modern folders, along with traditionals. I'm fine using knives with clips as long as the knife isn't too thick, too long, or too wide. Something about the size of a Sebenza is about my limit. A larger knife like a Buck 110, Hinderer, etc in a belt pouch is just as convenient to get to as one clipped to your pocket. Sometimes even more so. And they don't hog up pocket space.

I have some very nice expensive knives and while they are a joy to carry and even (The Horror) use on occasion, I want something to abuse on a regular basis. I want to scrape stuff and pry stuff and stick the tip into stuff that it shouldn't be stuck into. Of course it has to look good doing it all and make folks envious when they see the clip on my pocket. While I'm not a rich guy, I can afford any knife on the planet under $500.00. Let the knowledge and stories flow!!
A Mora 510 in a pocket sheath.

My mantra on hard use.

Whatever I do, can be undone. Break the tip- make it a wharny/regrind, scratch the blade up- get a working finish/dlc/cerakote, mar the handles- stone cut/demple/etch and ano.

Then, they are all fair game. Worst case, you end up with a one of a kind ultracustom. :)

A most excellent choice. Cheap. Made in the USA. Lifetime warranty. Corrosion resistant. Excellent blend of toughness and edge retention. Can be sharpened with anything (no vanadium carbides requiring diamonds). Choice of pocket clip or no, left or right hand. Hollow Ground. Locking. One hand opening. Thin. Light. You could buy about 16 of them for your original budget of $500. Keep one in your pocket, garage, desk, cars, bags, and give the rest away to friends.

"Heavily used knife, custom made scratches In unique one of a kind areas, environment-induced working finish; nothing else like it in the world, willing to trade 4+ sebenza(s) for it
