well from georgia the weight for 35 lbs would cost around $39.00 to california, and a weight at 50lb would cost $51.00 to california so if you life closer it will be less. i would like to get $40-$55 for one plus shipping.. i dont know for sure. my friend has a bunch and hell want to sell them to me. if there is enough interest i can prob get 10 more. i got those 3 to see if the could be sold. he iniatially said $75. i told him he was nuts. so im figuring if i offer him around $30.00 a piece i can make a dime on em for the trouble-so that would keep it around$40.00. ANY OPINIONS-marekz -oh ya he has like 100 large springs that hes selling. i posted one in the question forum. he wants $25.00 a piece. he might be selling them to some other fella though.

I picked up a chunk of rail from Craig's list when I first started (probably about a 24" piece) from some old guy for $25 but I think I got it pretty cheap. Don't know what scrap is selling for but I'm with ya', $75 is crazy.

i have 4 left--1 at 17 3/4" at 60lbs----1 at 13"--45lbs---1 at 10 3/4" 43lbs---1 at 10 3/4" at 37 lbs--marekz

cut them up and make knives from them :D

Jt what are you saying-- that sounds very hard--what kinda steel is it--you are joking arent you. marekz

nope not jokeing at all. i cut up a bunch on the band saw and the bandsaw blade was quite dull from all the stanless we cut at work but man it cut the track like butter. I was very suprized, even the top where the train wheels roll over cut easy. i think you could cut it easy with a sharp hawksaw if needed to. it cuts like mild steel.

shipping is a problem.-depending on where you are. it cost over $50 to cali. marekz

I guess steel is harder to find in your area. I get those drops for about 30 cents a pound here. Never saw one sell for more than $20. Sometimes a rail yard worker will bring me some for free. I keep a couple around the shop to give away to new smiths getting started.

If you cut one end to a point and grind it into a bick ( horn) they make a nice small anvil.

All this reminds me I need to make a trip to the rail maintenance yard.

Bladsmth-this guy has a large pile of stuff from the RR. those tracks, a few long wrenches, a bunch of flat steel plates with holes in them, a bunch of curvy steel latchy looking things, spikes and other strange shaped steel. i wonder whats useful. he said he can scrap metal them for alot of money. thankls-marekz

as someone has made notice to me- these tracks are bigger than the normal tracks. i check that out. i dont know why that is-maybe a rr would know but that makes them even better for use as anvils--mareks
