I Was Wrong About WE Knives

They are a communist country in a global trade war with many western countries for having the audacity to ask for an inquiry into the Covid19 global disaster.
I have bought products made in China in the past, never again.
They plagiarize whatever they can, do not recognize patents or royalties and steal whatever they want.
The Chinese Government is our enemy.

Keep your politics out of this, talk about the knives if you have experience with them.

I don’t think this should evolve into a political debate... there is a sub forum for that.

Having owned 100’s and 100’s of Knives in my days. WE and Reate set the standard on PRODUCTION knives. Higher quality.... better fit and finish.... tighter tolerances... I am no way trying to start a pissing contest. If you haven’t tried one - maybe you should see what you are missing. However, I do understand and respect your personal view and I can’t argue that.

Xenophobic trolls were bound to come out from under the bridge. There's nothing you can say to them to convince them that people != government, that includes China. I've tried.

Fact of the matter is that Reate, WE and other Chinese knife makers have shifted the landscape and have had a tremendous impact on the industry and hobby, for the better. At the bare minimum, they've lit a fire under the US manufacturers to improve quality and lower prices.

Those are the commiest screw heads and pivot I've ever seen! (joke guys--don't get the pitchforks)

Seriously though, that's a cool knife. Thanks for the review.

The people != the government, true, but the Chinese government is communist and as a result pretty much owns all the businesses in China. So every dollar spent is a dollar going to a communist regime.

I'm not xenophobic, and I have nothing against the Chinese people at all, but their government needs to go away. Just my opinion.

Be careful labeling your fellow forum members as "Xenophobic trolls".

xen·o·pho·bic
adjective
  1. having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.

Not liking China or China's policies does not instantly make one Xenophobic.

I don't like China's polices and I don't willingly support Chinese production, but I don't dislike people from other countries.
I have two sister-in-laws whom I love dearly...one was born and raised in the Phillippines, and one was born and raised in Okinawa.
I also have a cousin who is from Viet Nam who I also love.
And guess what...
None of them like or support China either.

It's wrong to accuse people of being "Xenophobic Trolls" simple because they don't support China.

im not confused at all about how business works in communist china..a country where the government owns every business including We Knives.

Im not saying dont support them..its great they strive to be different.

Im just saying in the usa..its very difficult to compete with chinese prices since their structure is built upon cheap slave labor.

its extremely unfair to have the same qualifier as "cheap" when discussing us knives. we have families and bills to pay and we dont have the luxury of living in thr factory and be fed.

if you like we knives like them because they are made well. if thats the case there are plenty of competing quality us made knives.

ps. the "skilled artisan" is a common term when companies justify moving production to china. like fjallraven. but the fact is..chinese workers are very skilled that is clear. even as you pay them a higher end salary we still talking a few dollars a day.

I don’t think you’re following the tone of the thread... we aren’t buying WE for the price. We are buying them for the design, quality, and tolerances. There is no reason it should cost American companies that much more to make sure the knives leave the factory tip top.
The average price of a WE knife is $235 for s35vn or m390. That is slightly lower than the price point of similar materials in the US. Let’s not pretend they’re half the cost.
WE manufactures mass produced knives that rival the quality of custom American knives. There is inherently something to learn from that... and it isn’t all about the bottom line cost. It’s attention to detail... skill of the laborers... a drive for perfection.
Pointing to politics does everyone a disservice.

the op clearly said he would like USA recommended knives with the same price range and quality.

if he was praising WE knives like many others I would have merely agreed abd moved on.

there isnt anything wrong about his question but i wanted to inform him of why that is not possible for the most part

you can trash the many skilled us knife makers if you wish. thats your prerogative and i wont touch upon that
