I will not buy a spyderco knife.

I don't refuse to buy Spyderco, but I find myself not buying many of them, because they look ugly, IMHO.
I also don't start a thread about it. I usually keep it to myself.

Something tells me you're a troll, and you want attention.

:hopelessness:
Really? I own 3 Kershaws with 2 on the way, so that's 5. Guess where four of them are made? It's not the USA. So Kershaw does not make all american products. Neither does Benchmade, have you seen the H&K line? Let me be the first to say I've owned several Benchmades and several of their H&K(not USA made) knives and the H&K knives are excellent as well.

I've owned even more Spyderco knives and the fit and finish on the Taiwan made knives surpass that of several USA made knives.

The materials used, fit and finish, and just overall quality Spyderco puts out for their asking prices really amazes me compared to a lot of other companies. Spyderco is a USA owned company. They just want to make the best product for the best prices for their customers and as far as I am concerned, they do a good job of it.

As for the warranty, it's a life time warranty, if the knife fails to perform as it should or it has some kind of issue from manufacturing, they will fix it. If YOU caused the knife to fail by abusing it, they will not warrant it. They shouldn't. It should not cost them more time and money to fix something that you messed up by using the knife for something you shouldn't.
They will take good care of you. But if you're the one to ruin the knife by being ignorant, why should they fix it?

Spyderco makes a great knife. You should try one out before banishing them from your collection and use all together.

I don't own a spydie but the OP must live in a shell. Of the top of my pointed head if you want the best watch you buy swiss, the best car german the best tv china and so on these are just examples of peoples opinions. I buy what I like because in the USA and other places we have that freedom. Pretty soon the OP's shell is gonna crack.

I figure that if a knife works out of the box, then it works. And if it stops working, then I probably did something stupid with it.

I don't expect to pay for someone else's stupidity. And I don't expect someone else to pay if I do something stupid. All I need is for a company to guaranty that the knife will work new. I know that Spyderco will make it right if the knife doesn't work right out of the box, and that's all I really need to know.

I've carried and used knives for more than 50 years. And that paradigm has worked just fine for me.

Excellent post. I completely agree. Not a warranty guy at all. If the quality is there from the start I have no issues.

MURICA!!
Hey man, everyone's got an opinion and you're certainly entitled to yours as much as the next guy but a thread like this is only going to encite anger and controversy.

Now that said, spyderco has always done right by me and I'm sure there's at least a few more people on here that would agree.

I'll give the OP credit for openly stating his prejudicial views. I'd say a good portion of us have similar views, but usually know better than to invite the public spanking.

FWIW, Kershaw makes a whole lotta knives outside the US, and their parent company is Japanese. But I guess we can overlook those details when they're inconvenient.

Spyderco continues to push the envelope by offering many many new steels to the knife community. I don't think there is any other company that has put out such a steel variety. Now that is not for everyone. Not everyone likes different steels. Sal love to feed us knife junkies though. He was even experimenting with SM-100.

As far as being made over seas. You are still supporting an American company so I fail to see the issue. Spyderco is extremely picky on who they choose to do their manufacturing as well. Many believe that their Taiwan department has the highest quality out of all their plants.

Honestly I am a bit tired of hearing people complain about high quality blades made over seas. I guess the Japanese had no idea what they were doing when making samurai swords. Hitachi puts out excellent steels made in Japan as well, ZDP-189, ATS-34,Blue Steel, White Steel, Super Blue. Would you boycott those as well?

Their warranty is a bit on the picky side. However even if you do void your warranty by disassembling it they will take care of any issue that they can handle for $25 dollars. Their warranty department is top notch.

There are American made Spydies... Also, Kershaw and Benchmade have products made overseas....

When I only 16 posts and a month or less on BF I knew I had a Lot to learn about knives. I guess the OP must be in a different type of person than the rest of us were when we had

16 posts and less than 1 month on BF.

A little knowledge is a Dangerous thing.

I've never had to send in any of my knives for warranty, be that SPYDERCO, Benchmade, Kershaw and many more. If I bought my knives for their warranty, I would probably buy striders cause I like theirs the best.

Seeing "Taichung, Taiwan" on a blade is now, for some of us, an incentive to buy a knife.

Meanwhile, I'll grab myself some popcorn.

pointless thread. Its your loss, and no one cares if you plan to buy a spyderco or not
