Awhile back I mentioned my turmoil in deciding if I should rehandle my prized and adored IBBB 1st version, 1st addition, 1st model.
moparsbob graciously offered his IBBB 2nd version 1st model, you get the idea as a guinea pig. Like me he has an affection for stag and horn. I happen to have some elk anter sheds found in the woods. (No elk died during the contribution of his head dress.
Our original plan was to look over the original horn handle, one of the pins was loose and one side was showing a gap. When I first saw the knife I thought it looked outstanding and figured I'd repeen the pin, checker it and send it home. But alas on closer examination all the pins pushed out with a tooth pick and both slabs just fell off.
I'm thinking the laha cooled too much during assembly and didn't adhere as it should.
Now Auntie I know your already on the keyboard saying you'll replace this but that is NOT our intent. It sang to moparsbob and he wanted something different anyhow so even knowing you would take care of it we decided to take advantage and do a makeover.
Here's some preliminary photos. Less than 10 minutes from box to this, cept for a little cleaning on the metal.

Notice how bent and twisted the aluminum pins are, this kind of surprised me but would actually be a good thing if the laha had held and the ends had been peened better. This working with antler will be a first for me so should be a learning experience. I'm pondering how to handle the fibrous part exposed on the ends. I've been told to just seal it with like super glue. I'll have to see what I end up with once I get them shaped and fairly close fitting. Any help in that arena is appreciated.

You can see the inside of the handles here where the laha didn't adhere, this is as they were when they came off. A lot of polishing on horn to make it pretty on the outside.
