Ice cream

Strohs Michigan black Cherry. Real big chunks of Black Cherries in it.

My problem with Ice cream is I get a taste for it and go out and buy a half gallon, I eat a couple of scoops and then it sits in the freezer till it gets funky tasting. Most of the regular grocery store brands used to sell pints but don't any longer and I can't abide by the idea of politically active ice cream.

I once bought some mint chocolate chip ice cream and someone on the production line allowed way too much of that green food die into the batch. It tasted good but had a strange radioactive green color to it.

....Don Luis, what kind of flavorings are used in the Mexican varieties?
We get all the common flavors from the USA both made locally and imported.

The local flavors are usually common popular stuff, you really would have to try them since taste is not easy to describe, like "mamey" and "zapote" are local fruits, cajeta is made by mixing goat milk with a lot of sugar and heating on a low flame until the sugar becomes caramel and it takes a thick consistency. Another popular flavor is "rompope", and eggnog like beverage with high alcoholic content.

There are of course places with lots of crazy flavors, like local liquors, avocado or whatever, usually small shops like family business things, the name of these shops often includes the words "Michoacan" or "Tepozteco".

CreamSickles (sp?)
Orange sherbet with vanilla ice cream inside on a stick...
Yay Summer :)

I am not a big ice cream eater, but about once a year I will indulge with something like a hot fudge sundae or one of Friendlies sundaes like the Reeses pieces or snickers sundaes. :)

Well first off I have to say there is a scientific reason why I scream comes in pints. It is just the perfect size for one person for one sitting . No really, I do this all the time. for me, it should be a food group! ( the metalbolism of a hummingbird and low-blood sugar helps!)

Other than that the only thing that comes to mind is B&J coffee coffee buzz buzz buzz. #1 favorite forever! If you like coffee I scream, this will be a winner - trust me.

Coldstone creamery anyone?
Dippin dots? ( It's kind of ice cream)
Astronaut Ice cream ( dehydrated)
Original I Scream sandwiches

can ya tell I love it.

Snickers Icecream bars

Mmmmmmmmm.... Icecream is all good. Fun fact for the day:

Alaskan's consume MORE icecream during the winter months than any other state. (And theirs only 600K of us lol ) Guess it's due to lack of sunlight and hibernation. Huh?!? Go figure, during winter, bears lose weight and... Strawberry by Breyers or Dreyers (Can't remember which) has my choice right now. Went throught a half gallon in two days.

Dang it!!! Now I gotta make an icecream assortment run :grumpy: :D

Like spooning up a bowl of sweet, freezing buckshot! LOVE THEM! (and when you finish eating them, your tongue is so cold it hurts! )

Dippin' Dots rock! I love the chocolate ones. Four years ago when I did my Army job training in San Angelo TX the mall there had a Dippin Dots stand. I made it a point to stop on every trip. However, my first ice cream love remains Hank's Frozen Custard, a small local stand that is only open five months out of the year. Every year they get visitors from every state in the union, including Alaska and Hawaii. They have a little list at the window and mark off a state when a car with that state's license plate is sighted in the lot. They've been in business for fifty years and interestingly enough, no one named Hank has ever been involved in the operation. So if you're ever in Meadville PA be sure to stop. You won't regret it.

Yeah, we're dipping dots deprived down here in FL. Can't seem to find them anywhere except at the yearly traveling fair that comes in february.

My favorite ice cream is free ice cream. See the pharmacy I work in is just a store away from a Cold Stone Creamery. About once a month or so they come in asking to borow something, a ladder, a shopping cart, whetever. Techinically I have no say in the matter, but I let them borrow whatever they want, or get them change, as long as I get some free ice cream.!! :)

I love icecream. My favorite is home made apricot icecream. Really simple. You get a large tea cup worth of apricot, slightly less sugar and 2 egg whites, mix it together until its relatively "fluffy". Then you get a large tea cup of cream, you whipe it together with sugar (and vanilla or vanilla flavored sugar if you like it). Slowly mix the whiped cream whith the abricot thing until it's homogenous. Put it in the freezer and enjoy a couple of hours later.
It's really creamy and yummy. You can also make strawbery or almost any other fruit icecream the same way. It's no diet stuff so don't eat too much and too often ;)

There's a farm a couple of miles from here with a fine herd of Jersey cows. The Icecream they make is fantastic, my son (4yrs) loves all the flavours available with the exception of my own personal favourite; liqourice. :)

Its gotta be Ben and Jerry's half baked. MMMMM! It's so different to anything else we can get in this country and the price reflects that but it is soooo worth it! :D

Thanks for the recipe. Do either of the first two mixing steps use an electric mixer, and if so, what speed? Or just mix by hand with a wire whisk?

One of the towns that I lived in many years ago had a local ag college. The dairy students would make homemade ice cream during the summer. Good stuff!

You folks in east NY and western Mass might know Stewarts Shops, they've got a bunch of nice flavors like black sweet cherry, crumbs along the mohawk, and a some other good stuff. Copake NY is a little town (gramma lives there), farm country, with a nice little shop on a dairy farm. This place makes homemade ice cream and other things, it's real good. If you're ever up there, go check out Langdonhurst Farms.

You are welcome. :)
I use a handheld electric mixer for each step (with wire beater attachements), starting slow speed not to splash too much and up to max speed. For the last step I use one of the mixer's wire beaters by hand.
