Everyone in the storm's path OK? It was a pretty wide weather front, or so says the weather channel.
I know Kentucky has been hit pretty hard with this, even the university closed down today (it never does). Constant ice, freezing rain, and a few inches of snow this morning. Very, very nasty conditions! At least 100,000 without power in Louisville.
Went out last night to dig my wife's car out so she could leave for work this morning more easily, everything was a coat of thick ice. My folding mil shovel in the truck was a real blessing here. Broke two ice scrapers trying to get ice off her car though! So in the future, my truck emergency kit will have the shovel, a spare scraper, and a bottle of rubbing alcohol to dissolve the tough stuff.
I was soaking wet (even through my 'waterproof' jacket and wool watchcap) by the end of it, mostly from the freezing rain getting through. It really reminded me how quickly the winter can turn nasty. In a real 'survival' situation, I'd have been in some trouble.
Also lost a tree today in the back yard of my apartment, laying on the bushes now:
How my wife and mutt coped with it yesterday:
So best wishes to all those affected by this, stay safe and warm!!!
