I just want to throw this out there.

I am a Machinist. (see username)

I would love to help some people out since I've asked for and received a ton of help in this forum.

I'm just getting into knife making and I really love it. I make parts at work with exacting tolerance and I'm good at it but it's not anything that interests me. (I can't get into what I make but I promise it's nothing too cool.)

Then I found knife making and although my machining skills can only help me with some of knife making skills and I still have a long way to go on freehand grinding it's really great to finally be making something that I can use and have an interest in.

Anyway... I'd love to help. I can make stuff. If you need any parts made like logos or platens or who knows what else. If you've ever said I need a cnc lathe or mill to make this. I'm your guy. I'd be glad to help. I will do this for free. Assuming I don't have to spend money on material. I do have a lot of scrap laying around the shop so if I can do it with that we are good. Otherwise you will have to supply the material.

Why would I do this??? What would I spend my own time to make something for you?
Because I need help in knifemaking and maybe I could learn something just by seeing what you guys need.

eg. You: "I need this fixture made so I can grind more evenly. Can you make this??"
Me: "sure I'll make two! One for me and one for you!".

Also I can easily made a logo for an etcher or some other stuff that might be hard without CAM programming and a CNC MILL.

reply in this thread or message me

Thanks
Nick

I'll keep that in mind, Nick, and I extend the same spirit to you. I've had not-very-encouraging but totally honest things to say about your designs, and I hope you took that at face value and weren't discouraged by it. You certainly have the right attitude about this forum and folks working together.

Nick, I too love to help fellow knife makers! This is a great place where the help comes with experience and knowledge. I'm sure, in the future, you will have an opportunity to help with what you know. Welcome to this forum Frank

Grain of salt James. I wasn't discouraged at all. The reason I make a post like that isn't for praise or self esteem it's to get honest feedback and I appreciate your honesty. I was stubborn about the pockets on that blade and while I really like how it is turning out. The pockets are a pain in the ass.

I'm stubborn, too... that's OK. In fact, it's the whole point of building the knives you want. Rock on :)

At the very top of the web page, there is a profile link. Or right next to it, there is a "settings" link. In settings, you can add/allow other members to contact you via the email you enter. It's been a while since I've done it, but I'm pretty sure that's how it's done. Just navigate the settings area, and I'm sure you'll have no problems. Of course, having a paid membership enables you to private message with members.
Good Luck.
BTW, I sent you a visitor message.
Thanks

Nick, left you a visitor's message. I have some ideas. Shoot me an email. Thanks for the generous offer!
