I'd rather have a Swayback than a bad back! - Winner Drawn!

Hope the sciatica flares down Jack. As a young'n at 23 with rheumatoid arthritis and sciatica issues earlier on it's definitely not pleasant ><.
I was born in Boston, MA in Dorchester during a snowstorm (not the best neighbourhood/ghetto) and my parents eventually moved us to a pretty affluent neighbourhood. Lexington~ The birthplace of American Liberty.

Some photos of Boston and my home.

thanks for the chance:) i live with chronic nerve pain in my back and recently diagnosed scoliosis, along with other physical problems-but! i also have a wonderful wife, an incredible son (almost 1 1/2, hoo-boy!) in Lincoln, Nebraska. it's around 300,000 or so,i think, and just about perfect size-wise for me. i'm constantly seeing people i know. again
thanks, Neal

Here's another picture from the Potlatch, Idaho area. This is the roof of a woodshed adjacent to an old abandoned Grange building. Mrs. Goose found a good place to be safe from the coyotes, but not much of a backyard for the kids to play in. Not sure where this is going to lead.

Jack,
I know first hand (as patient) and second hand (as health professional) that dealing with that sort of issue is not easy. Hope you get better soon.
Meanwhile, thank you for your generosity. I've always been intrigued by those lambsfoot blades, so I'll give it a shot.
I was born, and I'm blessed to live, on a wonderful island, full of traditions, sheep herds, a tough contryside, stubborn people, wonderful beaches, wine and myrtle liqueur, ancient ruins, bread and cheese, and quite a bit of pride :)

Jack, your posts on lambsfoots have drawn me to the conclusion that it would be just about the perfect knife for me. I was really hoping to see a GEC version made as the forum knife this year, and I encourage you to further considering an SFO of your own. As you know the lambsfoot is hard to come by here, so I have yet to get my mits on one.

I can also relate to your woes, after being functionally disabled for the last three years I finally was able to have spine surgery just yesterday. This GAW comes at a serendipitous time for me. I'm feeling very hopeful that the surgery will do the trick and that I'll be up and running (carefully) soon.

Here is a picture of me from this morning as I recover from surgery.

Thank you for the GAW, I can sympathize with your back problems!

I'm in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri.. below is a generic picture of the KC sky line. Curtin & Clark was here long ago, Shapleigh hardware was in our sister city St Louis, Missouri, Keen Cutter building not too far away from me in Wichita KS... others... Cutino Cutlery KC...

As far as the "second name in the hat", I backed you up for the idea of lambsfoot blade for the forum knife this year - post #119

That an excellent pattern! On traditionals I really dig these lamb/sheep/wharncliffe models. They seem to do the trick for regular edc use when one is looking for a sharp, precise cutter!

Here's two of three of my edc's!

PS my Sciatic nerve is killing me this year! I've been using yoga poses to stretch out my quads and hamstrings which helps to minimize the pain it's all isolated to my left side.

Amazing Jack! I sure hope you are feeling better, I'm lucky to have avoided back problems so far... My knees are another story for sure. I have always lived in the amazing state of Michigan. It's a wonderful place with 4 very real seasons.

We catch trout in the spring:

We hike in the summer:

We hunt in the fall:

We make snow houses in the winter:

Yes, I have heard of them... oddly enough I hear more about them online than in town. I guess it's not everyday you might need a swiss army operating table or (fill in the blank with anything cool lol)

I'm in the area.. I've intended to go to the store but haven't actually done it yet. Last year I checked out there website and it's amazing the amount of stuff they have. I need to just plan a day and go.. it's probably 20 minute drive or so. It's weird, most of my shopping is done online and if I'm out, it's to eat or do other things besides shop. I need to go... Have you been?

Edit: as I was thinking about it, isn't an employee or the sons owner on Bladeforums?

i havent been.
My boss went in there last year when he was out there for the Knifemaker's guild show
Andy was in awe with the amount of cool stuff they had and we ended up picking up a new dealer.

I just knew they had been around since the '30s so i figured i would ask

I'm in and Thank you for such a cool give away.. I hope you mend well. .. my name is jonny I was born in Whittier California. It's a cool little town in the San Gabriel valley. I left Whittier when I was 6 years old. I have been in las vegas ever since off and on. I'm not one to gamble this town wasn't built by winning. There are a few places locally I have grown to love. Iam an avid rock hound and a hobbyists knife and tool leather sheath maker . I also love restoring knives I find in pretty bad shape. I got bit by the traditional slip joint bug while fishing with my step dad. He always had a slip joint on him. Seeing slip joints always remind me of bass fishing with my dad we had lots of good days bass fishing and some were really good lessons in life. Little did I know my dad was teaching all kinds of lessons for grown up life ahead. .. Here is my last post on the porch

I returned home to my small town called Nelson in western Canada with my wife after spending the last 10 years in the busy bustle of Vancouver and couldn't be happier living back in the quiet, peaceful and absolutely stunning area where I grew up as child. We now spend our time always outdoors amongst friends, family, and all that nature has to offer.

Thank you good sir for this GAW and thoughts towards the healing of that back of yours. :D

Jack,
I do hope you confined relief for your back problems soon.
I grew up in northern Mexico, in a region bordering the Chihuahuan desert. While I have lived in other places like California and Texas, I still miss the landscape and people of the areas where I grew. Here are some pics from our recent visit to my in-laws in Zacatecas.

Jack Thanks for the opportunity. Hope you continue to get better.
I grew up outside of Asheville NC and am still here. Over the years this area ha changed a lot. Because of the number of craft breweries we have been named Beer City USA. Here are couple of stock pictures one of Asheville from Town Mountain and the other of the Biltmore House.

Thanks a lot Christian

Jack, I don't normally participate in giveaways, but your kind offer for a chance at a Sheffield Real Lambsfoot is too good to pass up.

Thanks for doing so in this case Dean, those are excellent pics you posted

Here's my recent lambs foot post link Jack, managed to work out how to do it (pleased). Great GAW, many thanks.

Thanks Tim, sorry to hear you're having problems yourself, and at such a young age. I first injured my back at work, aged 16, and it's been the bane of my life - well one of them ;) Thanks for the great pics, that is some sign isn't it?! :D

Todd, you're a trooper my friend, I really hope the surgery does its job  I'd love to see a special Lambsfoot made, either by GEC, or perhaps in Sheffield. Not because I want one myself, I have plenty already, but I really believe it's a great blade shape, and I know that for you folks in the US, they're hard to get hold of. Definitely something to ponder further

Thank you for the GAW, I can sympathize with your back problems!

Many thanks, and thanks for those amazing photos, and for the back-up of course ;)

Thank you  It's funny how we often find ourselves yearning for the terrain we grew up in, and those who inhabit it :)

Jack Thanks for the opportunity. Hope you continue to get better.

Thanks Randy :) 'Beer City, USA' - what a great place to live!! :D Asheville sounds like a cool place from what I've read about it

Thanks again for your posts folks :)

Since we last corresponded, Jack - I hope you're improving and feeling tons better, mate!

As I said, have been a back sufferer, still am, for a long time - since 17years old - and that is cough, cough, just a few years ago ;)

I keep mine under control, sort of, by knowing after all these years how not to sit, lift stuff etc., and doing as much swimming as possible, keeping the core strong with good stomach muscles to keep the 'girdle' intact.

Anyways.........what a giveaway! Jeez, there you are feeling blimmin' rough, yet you're doing a GAW. Top man.

Was born/brought up in Kenya. Just recently been back and though she passed a while ago, I swum out from a beach where my M&D used to frolic (they met just after WW2 in Mombasa) and let my Mum's ashes go on an outgoing tide.

My heart is still very much in Africa and I go back often. Here's one of the beaches and also a pic of the great wide openness that I love so much...
