Recommendation? Idea about plate quenching?

I'm always interested in ways to get more out of steel. I am having a hard time understanding what you are hoping to accomplish. What are the milled quench blocks doing that regular quench blocks don't do? This isn't sarcasm. Maybe I'm a bit dence and missed something. What steels are you using and what are you hoping to study? If you want to test blades I might be able to send you a couple.I imagine that you will need some sort standard blade if you want a controlled teat.

Interesting. I have no idea what he was hoping was going to happen. Its still just plate quenching.

For the more complex steels, send it out until you get an oven. For the forge, just grab some simpler steels. 1080/1084 or 5160 or other sping steels. I've had good results from 15n20 in my forge. 52100 does benefit from a more precise heat treat in an oven, buy if you have a decent eye, a...

I had traded a few pm's with that guy. He clearly thinks he is fine, and the fact that others (in this case "forums and the internet") wont accept his behavior is the fault of the "others". Little or no self control. I fear he will burn himself out, or get into some real trouble, or both. Sad to witness.

It seemed his only purpose here was to show his superiority, and flex his unparalleled intellect. Even laughing in the face of some of the most knowledgeable people in our craft. I'm not a fan of those types...

Over the years ive known a couple people like that. Proclaiming confidence that they knew more than others including/especially their teachers. Usually they just ended up demonstrating their ignorance, and never fared well. Like i said, sad.
