Ideas for a new EDC but with tons of restrictions.

Hello!

Check out the Viper/Technocut slipjoint offerings. Something like a Gobbo might be something for you.

Or maybe a Victorinox Solo in Alox? I think knives don't get more socially accepted than that.

If you want to stay away from slipjoints, there are some very nice friction folders out there. Here is one of my more unusual ones:

Most friction folders are tight enough that flicking open just doesn't work hence "friction" folder :) And they definitely do not lock, the only thing keeping the blade open is the fact you are holding the back of the blade in place with your hand and nothing else. The Todd Begg friction folder does have a flipper but the tang you hold in place while open hits your hand when you use the flipper stopping the blade at halfway open. You shouldn't have any issues with it being legal, at least I cant think of why it would be illegal.

If they can flick it open then it's a "gravity knife". I know, stupid beyond belief. Also doesn't look like I can even get a Begg at this time.

I would go with a michael morris friction holder or ukpk

Yeah I'm liking the MM ones.

Have you considered moving?

Not really a feasible option at this time just to carry :)

I have the Todd Begg Mini Glimpse Friction Folder with Carbon Fiber Smooth Finish. It's slim, narrow, light (2.4 ounces) and unintimidating. It has no locks and is slow to open. However, opening it can be done one-handed. I like that if I had only one useable hand.

Can you be a little more specific. Opened one handed normally by pushing the flipper or tang or flicked open by holding the handle?

check out the Spyderco Terzuola Slipit. it has a spydie-hole but cannot be flicked open at all, and it is thin+light with cf scales & a removable clip and good steel and a useful blade shape - here's a pic of mine with some modifications I did, on top of a modded Pingo

Hummm interesting thanks.

There is a youtube video of the Todd Begg showing how it opens. When you try to flick it with the flipper its tight and even if you do give it alot of wrist action then the tang hit your hand before it fully opens. It is one handed when you use the tang to move the blade in one smooth motion.

Don't own one (yet) but just came across this awesome Enzo folding knife that comes in both linerlock and slipjoint configurations. I've heard really good things about their quality of craftsmanship and that the carbon fiber is done very well.

I've found this one as well, but I have two concerns with it. 1) It's a bit on the fat side from the pics and videos. 2) Looks like the nail nick is really thin and right on the edge. I might have a hard time opening this one.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:
Chris Reeve Mnandi - Current carry, love it, but pretty small.
Chris Reeve TiLock - LOVE this one, but not the price. Wish I could find it used.
Spyderco UKPK CF or Titanium Scales - This one is in the lead so far.
Todd Begg Mini Glimpse Friction Folder - Another super expensive.
Enzo PK70 - Hard to open?

I love this knife... not so slim though...
