Ideas for a new folder please :)

Hi all
I'm looking for ideas for a new folder to take to work. It will mostly get used slicing my apple most days, opening mail and occasionally cutting open boxes of paper. I currently carry an Opinel which I love but would like an upgrade to something nicer. I'm in Australia so pricing is hard to compare but as a ballpark let's go with $200USD or under. Then I will figure out what I can get hold of here :) . My preferences are:
- A thin, narrow blade.
- Geometry for slicing; probably flat or convex grind
- thin profile to slip into suit pants
- I probably won't use a clip so that doesn't really matter
- one hand opening preferred but not essential
- not a flipper or assisted opener
- blade steel that is comparable to VG10 or better.
- not too "tactical " looking (it's all subjective but have a go :) )
- not a Buck 110 (someone will suggest it but I am not a fan of the Buck style :) )

Thanks in advance for the ideas :)

It sounds like you're describing a spyderco to me. Delica maybe?

I knew in writing it that a new Spydie was likely to be the outcome. A Delica is a bit big and (in the Australian context) probably a bit visually confronting for people.

The Gayle Bradley Air looks very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Keep 'em coming

Spyderco Native 5 with frn hadles and s35v steel. Light weight for pocket carry and 3 inch blade. Very well made and a bargain price online .

Delica has a sub-3" blade. If that seems a bit big, you may prefer 2.5" blade territory. One of the simpler William Henry knives was my first thought, but they might be too pricy. Spyderco Dragonfly Tattoo?

I would second the suggestion for a Benchmade 940 or a 941 but it is outside of the budget.

I have an older Delica (and love it). I mean it's a bit wider than what I am thinking. I also have a Spyderco Chaparral (and love it more than the Delica) but it just doesn't quite nail it for me. Don't worry I know I am being fussy. I have had a look at the William Henry knives and they look amazing. I have only ever heard good things about them. They're on my list but realistically are at least one workplace promotion out of my budget :)

I do like the look of the Benchmade 940 too.

What are people's thoughts on Mcusta? I vaguely recall something along the lined that they were expensive for what you get but don't quite remember.

I was going to say Mcusta. Nice classy knives wjile not seeming as delicate as William Henry. Pricey but smetimes you can find a deal.

Spyderco Stretch, fits the bill, IMO better choice than Delica.
I had similar requirements and I have bought Stretch.

I say benchmade 940! Great knife perfect for slicing apples. You dont want the blade to be too short for that kind of task [emoji2]

Good luck!

Rob

The 940 gives you lots of blade--almost 3 1/2"--in a very small-carry package. My money's on the 943--my preference for blade shape and your expressed desire for thin & narrow. Good steel, too--CPM S30V--and under 200 bucks here. My own version is a frankenknife with the 943 blade in a set of 940-1 CF handles. I was lucky to find that here on the Exchange so I didn't have to buy 2 knives to make the blade swap. In your case, the aluminum handles are light enough and would hold up fine for office use.

Benchmade 530. Axis lock folder with 154CM steel designed by Mel Pardue.

Boker Urban Trapper. Titanium frame lock with bearing pivot and VG-10 steel designed by Brad Zinker.

Both are slim profiled, gentlemanly folders that weigh under 2 ounces.

The Urban Trapper is a "flipper", but not so much so that you'd exclude it.
