Ideas for Knife Storage and Display?

I cannot tell if your display's sit flush with the coffee table's surface. Does it?

I use Bills Custom Cases and bank deposit boxes, myself. But, if you want something more for display, I'd follow Mr. FivePointOhh's suggestion. That looks great!
Thanks Chuck! My house rules, no beverage containers of any type allowed on the coffee table. This due to previous spills and foam-overs before the knife display.

Sygyzy, the surface the knives sit on is ~ 1.5 inches below the top surface of the table. Hope this pic helps.

Wow, that is very impressive. Did you use the existing squares cut out of the table and attached a box under them? Or did you cut them out yourself?

I am planning something similar to this for a storage solution for my knives as well as my khukuris. The shape will surely change, but the basic function will be the same. The khuks will hang against the back. Bowies and larger knives will hang inside the door. Folding knives in the drawers (which will probably be 2 full-width drawers).

Wish me luck!

I wish I could put my knives away long enough to display them, than if I had to look at all of them to decide which one would be part of my EDC rotation, I'd never get out of the house.:D

On top of that, if I had to compete with my wife for wall/display space I'd never get any peace.:(

Thanks. The table came with the glass panes in them. All I did was mount 11x14 inch document frames under them using angle brackets.

Pendentive, nice, good luck.

Fivepoint, thats a great idea!!! hmmmmmm...mmmmmmm.......no I do not think my wife would appreciate that.

very nice though! ;) What about putting a nice small background light bulb in there? (a light up coffee table knife display!)

Actually, what Mr. FivePointOhh has come up with there is classy enough that the wife might even allow it, especially if you let her fill a few of the panes with whatever she wants to display. And what a nicer thing to find in a house than such a classy display of the interests of both the husband and wife displayed together?

Are you ever afraid of guests spilling drinks and having it seep between the wood and glass and onto your knives?

One inexpensive method for storage is to use shallow cigar boxes and washcloths. I get a shallow cigar box and put a washcloth (old, new, whatever) in the bottom to keep the knives from sliding around. The knives hold the cloth down and the boxes stack for easy storage. You can divide your collection into cigar box categories.

Be careful in the display of your knives. Make sure your home is secure. Knives are quick to pack, high dollar and easy to get rid of. If your knives are in the open, they will be removed if you are robbed. My uncle's best pieces are under the floor boards in his attic, but he's a NYC cop. Be careful if you have parties with knives out on display or in easy access. You trust your friends, but don't always know their guests. My knives get packed up. Remember, you need to help keep honest people honest.

Just be sure the right people know about that sort of thing. I've heard to many stories of people gutting an old house finding a million dollars worth of silver certificates under the floor boards or something like that obviously stashed generations ago. And, legally, when you sell the house anything like that goes with it.

Just recently, a workman here in Portland found something like $300,000 in cash under an old furnace he was taking out. It caused a bit of a legal fight because documents with the money made clear that the money belonged to the previous owner of the house. When he died, his heirs sold the house. His heirs were aware that the estate was several hundred thousand dollars less than they expected, but couldn't find the missing money and figured it was lost in recent market downturns. Legally, they had sold the money with the house.
