Ideas for Knife Storage and Display?

Hello Everyone,

Although I stop by and read the Forums everyday, I'm not an expert on any knife subject, so I very seldom post replys. However, on the subject of display cases, I do "know" an Expert. So I thought I'd better mention him. Look over John Yeackley's workmanship at Clasic Wood Designs, out in CO. He runs a full woodworking shop for his business of designing and building exotic hardwood, turned urins for cremation ashes. In his spare time he likes to design and build knife display stands and showcases. He has build many stands and cases for my knives, and they truely are works of art. I have a special section on my Web-site set aside just for him, with lots of photos of his work, including the info to contact him. Visit www.sunrisecustomknives.com

Best Regards

Allow me to assist here Mr. Gollnick...
Please see http://www.bladegallery.com/accessories/casepage.asp

*Note - There may be other sources to acquire Bill's cases' but I've ordered from BladeGallery many times and will recommend them highly.

Bill's cases' are top notch quality in every way. No disappointments ever and I have many to prove my happiness with them. The zippered models are my favorites. IMHO, Bill's Custom Cases' are the only way to go for storage of the more precious of your knives.;)

Correct me if I am wrong but all of the cases are simply zip up cases. I mean, does he make any that are actually designed for knives? i.e. has slots for a number of folders?

Hi sygyzy,
I might be wrong myself but I believe that Bill's cases' are meant for knives in particular.

As for "slots for a number of folders" please see http://www.bladegallery.com/accessories/accessory.asp?id=32

There are also many others at the bottom of the page from my first link.

From the pictures it doesn't seem that way. How is it any different than dropping it in a fanny back? I mean I am really trying to understand here. These are specialized "knife cases" but they look like padded zip up cases to me. When I think of specilized purpose gear I think of watch boxes with special pillows/rings for the watches to sit on, shooting range bags with brass bags and slots of magazines, paintball gear bags with goggle compartment and padded air tank holders.

I really would like a good case but I cannot tell what is special about these?

Edit: Totally missed your link for the multi folder cases. I was referring to the single cases. Thanks!

Hi sygyzy,
There's a couple of things that make Bill's cases' more specific for knife use than general use.

The first would be the padding. He uses a non-foam material so as not to attract moisture. The padding is also installed into the case in such a way to wrap around a knife and keep it from moving inside the case which can cause scratches to a mirror blade and highly polished bolsters. Also, he claims that the padding is 65% cotton which can also help to reduce scratches as well.

The second is that they (the zippered case models) have two elastic bands attached to the rear of cases to allow you to attach either a sheath or even paperwork if you desire. Since it's important to not store knives in leather sheaths using a case like Bill's (with the elastic bands) you can separate the knife from the sheath while yet still having them together.

These cases are probably more suited to be used for custom/handmade knives that are higher priced than production knives and when purchased, at a show for instance, will generally not have a box. These cases then become a valuable assest to add to the protection of your valuable purchase/investment.

I also use these cases for my antique/vintage production sheath knives too because they too most often come without a box. I haven't yet put any of my antique/vintage folders into any of these cases because I prefer to use a knife roll for that. Of coarse I am concerned about the felt color bleeding into certain materials but I'm keeping a close eye out for that.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions.

Raptor,

You have been more than helpful. I am most grateful and am going to place an order for a multiple folder case in the near future. Have a great weekend!
