If you had $50, what non-knife outdoorsy thing would you get? Or where would you go to spend your $50. I am not really interest in Cabelas at this point. However, I'd love some suggestions on where to get a good DVD or two, or perhaps some decent (not gimmicky) survival/hiking stuff. I have an idea or two, but am looking for more. Please, let 'er rip guys! Thanks!

Probably here: www.campingsurvival.com

Bensbackwoods would be second.

I'd probably get a $10 buttpack, $10 firesteel, $6 paracord, $12 US military canteen set (canteen, pouch, cup), and a surplus poncho with the money left.

Jake's idea is a really good one too, though (guyot and maxpedition holder)

Had this exact problem a year ago: won a $50 gift card to a store I didn't care for.

Took forever, but then it occurred to me. I bought a really nice, huge all-weather duffel bag with a lot of compartments. That and some elk jerky came to $51.

Non-knife...how about a machete? Maybe an axe? Just kidding, I would probably buy some UnderArmor Coldgear.

What I usually do when I have money to burn is go to the nearest REI and look around to see what I need. Then I go home and search for the best price and order it online.

If I had themoney right now I think I would go for another firesteel or two. Somehow I only got one. Another thing I have been looking into is a nice case to hold all my knives but I think this would be more then $50.

As far as stores I think I would go in this order: REI, Wally World, Here, Bens Backwoods then anywhere my google-fu took me.

a cool hat is always good! A decent compass is good to have, but for all around pure use enjoying the outdoors, optics. It's not survival related, but they sure are handy.

Or get some marlinspiking bits. a small fid and awl, little pouch and tin of wax- I tend to find that I am happiest with stuff to Do Stuff with.

Something functional and yet, traditional...maybe a very good wool shirt?

+1 for Kismet said.
or a good pair of socks and glove.

well, I must buy one as I lost them last spring in Mt. Fuji.

I would buy a nice backpacking hammock that I could use. I've never owned one and have the itch to try one out.

As the weather is getting harder to be out in now maybe a good book or dvd to enjoy while you plan some time in the woods?

Any Ray Mears book or dvd or maybe the new Survivorman book would be my first choice.

It depends on what kind of outdoorsy stuff you are looking for.

Knife Related: Sharpmaker or DMT stone

Camping: Propane lantern

Hiking: Lensatic Compass

Hunting: Underarmor

Fishing: Landing Net

Pet: Those cool saddle bags you can put on your dog

Sports: Heart rate monitor.
