Idiots guide to Steel

I think the General has his properties mixed up. It's pretty common for people here to mix up "toughness" and "strength". Talonite appears to be plenty tough. But a number of us have found problems with strength, and even the experts confirm that they modify the edge geometry a bit from the usual steel blades to make up for it. Talonite is tough, but weak. If your edge is thick enough, or if you don't use the knife hard, you'll never see the weakness though.

Sorry try this

Joe is right of course. Tougness means the material is more ductile and thus bends rather than breaks. Strength is the ability to take hard impacts and not deform at all? Or is it?:o

That def. is fine. The frustrating part, of course, is that as hardness increases, strength also increases, but toughness decreases.

You had to ask...

Look at the Masters of Defence QCD DD and that had a plunge lock. When I get more time I will try to explain in more detail. Needless to say it is a VERY good lock.

LOL. I guess I'll get an explanation from you before I come across a QCD DD.

BTW I finally bought a Spyderco Navigator & Wegner Mouse. Love them both. (the cutting power on both of those is quite frightening). If I come across a Camillus EDC then I'll probably get that.

Thanks for all your help.
