IE locks up BAD when posting!

Advanced Reply,

I wrote before that it takes about 8 minutes for the site to come back but if I kill the iexplore.exe process in Task Manager, I can get back right away, albeit without submitting the post.

Windows XP Pro SP2, BTW.

UnknownVT wrote QUOTE: I'll just do a Submit Reply withOUT any Preview Posts. If this post is successful - I'll try to return to Edit this post..... UNQUOTE

The above posted OK - but locked-up after one successful but very slow Preview on Edit.

I now just modify the QUOTE to eliminate the tag to avoid it altogether to workround this problem (see above).

Without the QUOTE tag - I can Preview multiple times and BFC works fine and fast.
(I've used Preview Post 4 times on this post alone)

I can also Edit multiple times -which I'll do after posting.

EDIT #1 - with 3 Previews

EDIT #2 - posted fine with Edit #1 - #2 with 3 Previews

I was having the same problem last night in the HI Forum. This is my first post this morning so we'll see. The ones last night were where I had clicked on the "Quote" button.

I had a couple problems today when I tried to QUOTE. The web page locked up on Preview Post. I didn't go to Submit Reply this time, because that froze my whole system, and I had to shut it down and restart.

Having that problem more and more myself. Using firefox and advanced

I have twice tried to post to the Price of Gasoline thread in the Political Arena using the quote function and it has locked up both times. This has been today and I have been posting from my office system, which is Windows NT based and runs IE.

I am also having that problem.

The only way that I can unfreeze my browser is to click the browser Icon
and that seems to do the trick on shorter posts. So far anyway.

Not to appear contrary to the other esteemed posters here, but I haven't had any difficulties in posting with IE6, either with quoting or without, for the past three days. I'm leaving this note just to let Spark know that it isn't a universal problem.

Just attempted to reply on the regular Blade Discussion Forum -
I used the QUOTE button and trimmed the quote -
BUT I forgot to get rid of the QUOTE=username tag
Of course - after spending some considerable time on composing and getting all the links and pics in the post - on my very first attempt to Preview the Post it locked-up on me -
this was sudden death/totally UNforgiving -
I could not copy my post to retry and bascially lost everything - and had to re-type and relink everthing.

Sorry to sound whining - but it's VERY frustrating for a simple stupid error - yes, on my part -
BUT I think it's reasonable to expect the normal QUOTE button using the default QUOTE=username tag to work and not give such catastrophic problems for some users using standard IE6 -
and the problem is not isolated - with several reports since July/30..... nearly 3 weeks now

Don't know what to tell you. We're using the default vB3 installation with regards to quoting & such. vB 3.5 is suppossed to come out shortly, maybe that will fix it.

Short term solution: Don't use Quote=username, don't multiple quote, and trim the amount of text you are quoting

Thanks Kevin/Spark - all very good advice which I try to follow in normal course.

Unfortunately on that one case I just forgot to get rid of the QUOTE=username tag (my fault, but I've gotten so used to BFC for years without any problems) and got my catastrophy :(

I hope you guys will please continue to look into this -
because it is obviously a pretty serious problem for some of us.
(as you see I've made sure this time I got rid of the QUOTE=username tag - hence the non-standard "quote" above)

Thanks,

I'm having a similiar problem, whether it quot or just submit the browser just locks up and doesn't respond.

I just attempted to reply three times to a thread and it just isn't happening. I even cut my post to the clipboard and that didn't save it. when it locked up the clip board contents were gone.

Edidted to add: No problem on this thread..LOL

*right thread*

I have done a little diggin on this and think i have the "fix up"

if you remove the active x from your ie (example yahoo and virus scan) you shouldnt have any more locking up issues.

it has worked for me and some others on "another website" using the same software

active x is casuing ie to freeze up.

if you use microsoft antispyware you can go to ->advanced tools, ->system explorers,-> downloaded active x and 'manage' them there.

BLOCKING them deletes them and you should be OK. *** warning***dont delete if youre not sure****

i am not l337, as some like to point out.

just my .02 ore [N.V.]

Before I made the (permanent) change to Mozilla Firefox, I had some issues with IE causing slowdowns and what not, due to the active X. Once I disabled the active x, I kept getting annoying little warning labels on most pages I visited saying that they wouldnt display properly without active x controls, some pages couldnt load, etc. I still get this if I try using IE, so now I dont use it at all. I can visit those same sites with Firefox and have no problems- go figure. I never really figured out what active x was for, other than sucking.

I've always considered Active-X another evil plot by Microsoft and disabled it years ago. Maybe that's why I've never had the lock-up problems people have been reporting here.

Many thanks for that input.

I can't seem to find how to disable ActiveX in my IE6 (Windows Me).

However I do run SpywareBlaster v3.4 (always kept up-to-date) which is supposed to control spyware ActiveX

This link might help, but the best thing to do is use firefox- No active X, no BS, no Microsoft evil conspiracies.
