I found some Shaggy Manes today. Theres a bunch more just coming up. My book says these are choice. Im going to eat them tomorrow. This will be my first time with this one.

It's not the Alcohol Inky. Alcohol Inkys are a natural Antibuse But I would at least cook them up tonight and have them re-heated on toast tomorrow.:thumbup:

I ate the Shaggy Manes this morning. Fried them in bacon grease. Very delicate and mild. Not as good as Morels or Oysters but close. A lot of water content.

Boy, I'm sure glad they made the night.:thumbup: I love shaggys and only found, sadly, about as many as you had there. The amazing thing was that they came from the driest, crunchy ground you could imagine.

I just went back to see if there were any more come up and the spot got mowed this morning. I picked a handful of little ones that I will saute later.

These Shaggys came from compacted ground that use to be an old road.

As far as eating , these are not the best deep fried like a morel or oyster which are chewier. These are better sauteed. I made some in butter and garlic powder and they were real good.
