If money wasn't an issue...what Traditional knife would you want to get?

If money was no issue then I'd set up a joint bank account with 2 of my favorite custom knife makers. And they could send me knives whenever they want and just take out the funds from the joint account. :D

I'd buy a pair of custom 3.5" equal end penknives, with stainless steel backsprings, nickel silver liners and pinched and lined bolsters, with clip and coping blades, in 1095 or CPM154 depending on my mood on the day I ordered. One would be in a very pretty multicolored mammoth, one in pre-ban. Both would have coined liners and filework inside the backspring. I'd be able to carry one for dress occasions and one, daily. I'd probably also have a Bowie made like the one Kamagong posted, because ...wow. That thing is gorgeous! I don't "need" a Bowie, but I bet I could find some room over the fireplace to display that one ;)

Best answer I've ever heard.:thumbup::thumbup:

Now that i am retired money is always going to be an issue. But i find that the knife i am waiting to be delivered is the one knife for me, yet after a day or two, sometimes less it will be in one of the cigar boxes that my knives live in and an old faithfull will be in my pocket, sound familiar ? Now that i do not get out so much i sometimes find that i will change my carry knife several times a day, especially if i spend to much time on this forum.

If I were allowed one free knife of my choosing, I'd like a smaller version of this whittler:

It's a single spring whittler that was made by a gentleman named Samuel Jackson in Baltimore in the 1800s. There is no nick in the main blade. It's opened by pivoting the catch bit, which pushes the blade up enough to pinch it. For secondary blades I'd like a coping in the place of the pen blade, and keep the punch on the other side.

It's a very intriguing knife, to me. All pictures and information are borrowed form Mr. Levine's site. I showed it to Ken Erickson at a knife show last spring and asked for a ballpark number on what something like this would cost. It would have to be a "money is no object" scenario for this to come about. ;)

For a fixed blade I'll want an Alan Wood woodlore bushcraft knife the one with the white handle scales with red liners.

Then I'll work with some maker for making two or three versions of a pocket knife ~3 1/2" closed with main clip and a scimitar secondary for whittling-carving as recommended by Donald Mertz the Woodbeecarver. Hand forged in O1 or 52100 sunken joints for maximum comfort while carving, we'll have to decide about 1 or 2 secondaries.

Speaking of Sodbusters, my pick would be a Kerry Hampton Khnutbuster in D2 and maroon micarta.

You guys and gals sure have great ambitions! Myself, I have recently gone through a purge of sorts, must be getting close to spring? :) but I'm whittling down my knife collection to a select few of those that I would carry or have in a kit bag, so my initial post is out the window, at least for the foreseeable future.

Wish me luck folks!...I do still have the green Peanut ;)

Since it didn't exist before, and may soon be available, I'll change my answer to one of Charley's Texas Camp Knives. :)

Despite pre-ordering one a couple of months ago .All the money on Earth won't get me a Snakewood Viper by the look of things.:(

I never thought about the ultimate knife until this thread but now that I've given it some thought.
The Northwoods IRJ is a wonderful knife, 3 ¾” is a perfect length. I like the concept of the GEC #54 with clip & spear blades but at 4 1/4” it's to long.

So a little selective breading & some steriods will get me a 3 3/4”, 2 blade IRJ, with the IRJ handles.
Nail nicks like the GEC, plain bolsters, no half stops, no shield, stainless liners, bolsters & pins.
The steriods will get me M390, why not moneys not an object right.
The IRJ #54, so I never have to think about which main blade to carry.

I would have to go with a knife by C. Gray Taylor. BTW Gray is still making knives. He was at the AKI last year and I think his next show is in Solvang pretty soon in April.

I have two knifemakers whose work I would dearly love to own and likely never will. The first is R.W. Loveless whose drop point knives have the style and proportion that speaks to me like few others. I do have the Beretta copy with they black Zytel handle but a real original from the master would be a dream come true.

The other maker that has a unique vision that if find unsurpassed is Ron Lake. His heel lock folders are both original and absolute works of art.
