If money wasn't an issue...what Traditional knife would you want to get?

Just a spear point Barlow or boy's knife (to complement my clippoint one. Thanks again Duane ;) )
I'm a simple man.

I'd have to pick up a T. Bose Lanny's clip with a Damascus blade, and Mammoth Ivory scales.

That, and/or a Traditional (in the true sense of the word) Japanese Katana, with all the accoutrements.

T. Bose Lanny's clip for me as well. Either one of these would do just fine.

I'm pretty sure it would involve Evan (Esnyx) , Super Blue steel and Mammoth scales and be a single blade clip point in the 3.75"-4" range.

how can there be pain if money isn't an issue

Good point sir ;) I'm just waiting on the day when money isn't an issue...then WATCH out world ! lol

I would spend my money on a maker's instructions to help me build a perfect 3-5/8" Stockman.

I'd use CPM154 for all of the steel and probably desert ironwood for the scales. It would have pinched bolsters with a single small flute. All blades would have a matchstriked nail nick and drawn swedges.

I would want them to take me through every process of building the knife. If I screwed something up, I'd want them to help me do it again and again until the entire knife was finished perfectly.

That way I could be happy knowing that I made the knife and that it couldn't get any better than it was.

I haven't gotten all the details figured out in my mind but I think I'd go with a 3 7/8" trapper with Turkish clip in front of spey with nail nicks on opposite sides. I'd go with stag covers and since I always carry a trapper squirrel hunting I'm thinking an acorn shield.

I like the sound of that a lot Unclepapa. If I had a a pile of money to spend I would try to track down a pre 1970 Case '54 redbone Trapper then try to live long enough to wear it out.

Jim, you may want to get to it. It's taken 35 years and 2 generations to get one to this point.

I'm not sure I can imagine a more difficult choice. Haha. One knife. Unlimited funds. So many to choose!

I may be thinking small, but I would probably go for a Fallkniven Northern Lights Frej or Jarl.

For a folder - small story time. When I first started getting into trads I found a for sale post for a john Lloyd custom muskrat in white ivory micarta. I fell in love with it and the pattern. It made me want to go muskrat hunting, for find some new hoo by which absolutely required two identical razor sharp blades. Needless to say it slipped through my fingers. I reckon I would track that down. Love me a muskrat!

I'm going to be pondering this question for months...

Great thought provoking post!

I'd ask Phillip Patton if he could make a duplicate of this one for me. Either that or a Cottonmouth by E. Scott McGhee.

If GEC would put out a special edition of these 3 knives, I'd be all in:

#15 Long Pull Spear Point TC Barlow in elephant ivory
#99 Long Pull Spear Point Farmer Lock in elephant ivory
#71 Bull Nose in elephant ivory

All three would or should have a very special inlaid shield, and blades numbered.

I have been thinking about this for a few days, either of these would do it...

Tony Bose Zulu Spear in elephant ivory
Jared Oeser dogleg with single spear in elephant ivory

....or I can think of at least five other combinations of custom makers and knife patterns (Halfrich Rounder, Pena Lanny's Clip, Dowell anything....)

Man these are all great ideas, I hope some of us can act on them this year or next,
