If you can only have one...

Man that's a hard question. Part of the fun of this hobby is changing things up by carrying different patterns. But if I had to pick only one, it would be a slim scout-like pattern, equal end shape about 3.5" long, with a large sheepsfoot, a small pen blade, and a crown lifter. No wait, a large spear blade, a small wharnecliffe/carving blade, and a crownlifter. No wait....

Not going to happen for me. I use my knives. I've carried a stockman and scout/camp/Demo knife paired with a Buck 110/Old Timer 6OT/7OT or 2 blade slipjoint folding hunter for around 60 years. Some days I gave the stockman the day or a week off and carred a Barlow instead.
On days I knew I would be working with rope/cordage/electrical, I carried a Marlin Spike. In the garden, a pruning knife, and so on.
No one blade type is ideal for all tasks.
I was learned "Use the right tool for the job, you go****n no good worthless *****!" .... " back when I was a youngling knee high to a gnat.

This has been asked a few times. And everytime I have a different answer. 😂
I have a few that could fill the role a GEC 54, a buck 112, a case 31 jack, a pioneer...those are the main contenders..for the moment. 😅

Honestly the GEC 54 is probably first as it's more sentimental and then a Buck 112

I think i'd be pretty set with something like the 53 Cattle baron or 98 Texas cattle knife. Mainly would want a sheep, a clip/spear, and an awl. That'd pretty much have most situations i run into covered.

It would be the pen pattern, which includes it's various forms.
My Camillus equal end advertising pen , 3 Buck 305 serpentine pens, and my 3 Case '08 half whittlers, all forms of the pen pattern.

Maybe I cheated, but you weren't specific enough.

Here's an old picture just to give the thread a little color. It has a little more patina now. But this is the 54 my wife gave me when we got married.

Most likely my Buck 112 if there could only be one. It has the most meaning to me as it was a special birthday present. Plus it’s just a tank that I don’t mind putting to most tasks.

If it had a buddy pass, I’m pretty sure it would bring its best pal, my #47 viper in black plum!

Having said all that, I have a new #86 Angus Jack that I’m really growing fond of after just a few days, so…

And then of course, there’s…

A Schrade 899. California clip, sheepsfoot, and a punch. What else could a fella need?

Some sort of sak but I'd be an unhappy man like when I was a kid and I never had the knives I wanted but was probably a lucky kid that I even had knives

I've been essentially hard-wired, over the last 15-20 years, to carry a large stockman everyday. And within that pattern framework, I've comfortably embraced the Case '75 stockman as my first-choice daily carry. I've carried other very similar models from Buck (307, 301), Schrade (8OT) and Queen (#49). But I keep circling back to the Case '75. Great thin blade grinds on that one, much better than any other I've tried. Been very steady with this one, in particular - my Amber Bone '75 in CV:
