If you carry the same knife daily, what is it?

Let's say you've been carrying the same knife every day for over a month, what is it? Why have you settled on that design?

For me it's the Victorinox Camper going on 3 months. Does everything I need, without being too bulky. It isn't a decision any more, just drop it in the pocket every morning and go.

For the last couple…. I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t know how long. My go to is a 4 1/4” stockman. More often than not I carry that. It’ll either be a Case 6375 that I’ve had since probably 2008 or so. Other times it’ll be a Buck 307 or a Remington 9501. Most often the Case. I’ll pair that pattern with my beater 3 dot Buck 110 for use on cutting tasks I won’t use the stockman for. The Case is an amber bone CV model, nothing noteworthy except a lot of miles with me and it’s sent a lot of blister packs and zip ties to plastic heaven. I reckon I was around 14 when I first handled my uncles (now mine) 6-dot case jumbo stockman and I’ve had a thing for them ever since. Oh I’ll carry something else ever now and then but I always go back to the 4 1/4” stockman. I can count thirteen, maybe fourteen, of them that I own for sure as of today; 4 Case 6475’s, 2 Case 3375’s, 2 Remington 9501’s, and either 4 or 5 Buck 307’s. And one German Eye jumbo stockman with yellow synthetic handles, no idea as to model number on that’n. I figure if they stop making that size I’ll have enough to last me my lifetime easily.

yep, I've been carrying a Victorinox Spartan for a few months now. Since I spent most of my days in my home workshop it's all I need. I find myself using the can and bottle openers as scrapers pretty often, they work great for what I need them to do. I do occasionally add another knife and/or multitool depending on what threads I red here 😁 or if I'm heading out where I'm going and what I'm doing but the Spartan is a constant.

SAK Huntsman for the last 3 or so years. It replaced a SAK Spartan that I semi-retired after carrying daily for about 15 years because the main blade was pretty worn down and wanted a few more tools. Before that I carried a Wenger S17(I think that was the model?) daily for around 10-15 years before I stupidly left it on a jetty fishing and was gone when I went back to look for it.

I think like a lot of people I have a rotation of bigger folders that I normally carry for a main knife, but the SAK I always have on me.

That's a pretty solid choice but I'd have to have scissors. I could go with the huntsman but it adds bulk. I don't think I'd need the bottle openers. Do you use those often?

Okay... You caught me 😉 Vic classic is always on the key ring so scissors are there.

I sharpened the corner of my large SD so it scores tape enough to open boxes. Use it all the time, and it keeps gunk off my blades. The can opener works well for Phillips, in fact I just used it to fasten my downspout. You can also hook nail heads with it and pull out small nails, like the ones used to fasten photo frames.

Vic Classic SD is the perfect companion to any knife.

I know you didn’t ask me, but when I carry my SAK pioneer the bottle opener is by far the most used component. I like beer, for one thing. Beyond that, it’s perfectly good as a screwdriver in a pinch, and I’ve found it’s a great tool for light prying also.

The spyderco Native 5. I’ve carried a variety of models over the past few years. I got the model shown when it came out (I can’t recall how long back). The heat treat on this Cruwear is really something else. This folder has been carried every day in some capacity since it arrived.

My choice is the Native 5 LW in Rex-45. In fact nothing else has been in my pocket since 2020 when I was forced to sell off my collection and could only keep one folder. I don’t think I made a poor choice.

I have been carrying this guy for a few months now, maybe a bit longer; I just checks pretty close to all of the right boxes. It is a very convenient size, I like the opening hole versus a stud although I have knives with stud that I like a lot. I am a fan. Of the back-lock/lock back type of locking device. the S30v blade steel keeps a fairly good edge and is super easy to sharpen on my Sharpmaker.
Not much to not like about this little Spyderco.

See this gets to the root of it for me. I too have nice knives that I love but am too shy to properly abuse (mostly custom fixed blades).

I find myself pulled more to the appreciation of budget beater tools that just work these days, it's weird.
