So here's the question.

If you could change the steel on one becker what would it be and why?

SO heres first change, also make coments on others or why would you go over x steel over the y steel that person choose on that knife...

I will make the first entry easy...

Get the BK-13 Remora take away the 440A and change it to S30V. Because its better in every aspect over the 440A only lacking behind in sharpening, but it would be and EDC nice so could be babysitted everyday.

I would not change it. It simply works fine the way it is. 1095 Cro Van is some good chit. Holds an edge, sharpens easily, does not roll & is economically friendly. :D

BK-15 in S30V, 154CM or one of those nicer stainless steels since I like bringing it fishing but the saltwater is a problem.

I know Ka-Bar are experimenting with some higher end steels for their Snody collaboration (and potentially more lines) so it'd be cool if they pulled a couple of those bars/sheets aside and did a LE run of more BK-77s or saber ground 16s.

I would love to see a BK-2 or -9 with INFI steel. From what I've read it's tough as hell.

more expensive steels would basically make Beckers more expensive, and not competitive, with little benefit. imho.

but fiddling has occurred in the past. for example the S30V BK7s. sold well they did not. BK11s in Hitachi steel. sold well they did not.

the current BK14s in D2? best buy them, and a lot... then we'll see.

sorry to be a buzzkill, but that's the way it is.

Didn't know about these...What era were they made? Blackjack? Camillus? Were they even a production knife or just protos?

BK7 S30V from Camillus and KaBar's revamp and superior fit and finish version from old blanks

the rest are KaBars through and through. well made, well done, just not big sellers.

Productions and LEs. yup.

You are a buzzkill, he didn't say production ready... indulge the poor lad in fantasy land. For the record, I have the Hitachi BK11 and holy shiznet, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you can get those things to retain an edge sharper than the devil's tongue.

Now you're just taunting by talking about an S30V BK9... Where can I get such a mythical blade?!?

S30V and/or CPM-3V.

An uncoated, sabre grind BK-16 in 3V, S30V, CPM-154CM, M390, or even D2? With micarta. Oh... I'd give up all of my other Beckers to have that thing...

What about S35V BK-2 an steel all aroud better than 1095?

Bladite in response to why not hi end still por selling, Much has to do with model.

For example the 7 from what i've seen isn't the most popular becker first the 2 then the 9... And s30v doesnt do the blade geometry and body justice.

The same would go for the eleven, the san mai is not a popular steel for worktools only for tactcool tools has we seen with cold steel(not that its bad i myself have some cold steel), witch is far off from the becker idea of knifes has worktools. Also the lauch of the san mai was close in date with the creation and launch of the 14.

Bladite has a former student of social communications, i can see what could've gone wrong, and while I am only an outsider, sometimes is not about thinking outside the box, but the outside giving the box.

I think with a lot of newer modem alloy tool steels and stainless steels you lose one key feature of the Beckers and that is ease of sharpening. Its one reason I like 1095 so much it doenst hold its edge forever like some of the newer steels do but you can find a rock in a river and put an edge back on your blade if need be. Thats why I said 52100, it holds an edge longer, its tougher, and from my experience its just as easy to sharpen in the field.
