If you could change the steel on a becker what would it be?

I'd pay a bit extra for a limited edition run in a tool steel like O1, D2, or A2. For stainless options I'd be into 440C other mid-grade steels that wouldn't jack the price up too much.

I wonder if there'd be any advantage of a pure 1095 steel, rather than the Cro-Van stuff? Given the number of people who strip and patina their Beckers, might 1095 give a better patina? Would 1075 / 1085 not hold an edge as well?

There is little to no difference between 1095 and 1095crovan given the heat treat is done right on them both. I know 1084 is just as good as 1095 is and its easier to heat treat, this is why you see 1084 used by a lot of custom makers that and you can forge the heck out of 1084. 1075 from my experience doesnt hold its edge as long but at the same time seems to be an overall tougher steel. To me 1075 bridges the gap between 5160 and 1095, again this is from my own personal uses nothing at all scientific about it.

Hand forged Damascus BK9. That is all

With micarta made from $100 bills.

I'd love a damascus BK11/14 run (like the damascus Izulas). As far as working steel, I really like the 1095 and don't see any reason for a change.

Hah.
This is interesting question.
One must find a equilibrium between marketing value of steel (s30v, 3v, cruwear - high marketing value), its price (and tooling/ht price) and benefits which steel is supposed to give.

There are many interesting tool steel, which are not very popular among knife enthusiast. But ka-bar would need to order whole "bucket" made for order, so i guess ALL bkt would needed to be made of new steel.
1095 cro-van is good. I would like to see bkt in 0.9C,1Cr,0.8V(or Nb or Ti) steel.

I'd be in for a 3V RBK...

As bladite says, however, the only steels that really would provide a significant advantage over 1095CV are prohibitively expensive, and therefore not able to be offered at the low price point that are one of the defining features of Beckers.

Now that's a great idea! Maybe using $1 bills it would be possible. I like the sound of a Damascus BK14
