If You Could Design Your Own Spyderco

I'd like to design one. In fact, I have one in my head that is SOOOOO good that I would like to get a cut of the sales.
This is SERIOUSLY good.
And NO ONE has anything like it and Spyderco (of all the makers) would find it the easiest to make with very very little modification to even existing models.
The market would be very large.

Sal, you interested? Serious question.

I'm going to add another question to this thread (so long as you don't mind).

Would you think your ideal spyderco knife would sell well?

Most of the knives listed including mine probably would not sell well due to the high cost they would have to have, which brings us something I would love to see Spyderco do. Each year have a "special knife" one that will only be produced that year with the goal of trying to make a more perfect ultimate cost no object tac folder each year, a forum like this would be a great place to get ideas for such a knife. I know I'm probably dreaming, but Boker has their Damascus why can't Spyderco launch and Ultimate Tactical Series and call it the Spyderco UTS with the year for the knife like for this year the UTS 2005.

The only knife I've asked for that I think would sell is the return of the modified G10 police with ability to be carried tip up or down, does anyone know why the original G10 police was dropped, was it due to poor sales or because it was deemed to similar to the military? I think this thread has produced some awesome fictional knives btw:)

And Oh yeah who'd like to see a Military with G10 on one side and TI on the other as a framelock, ala Strider SNG :)

Ok, some mine three:

spyderco renegade with ss handles and carbon fiber inlay, vg10 steel, plain edge, ambidextrous ss clip.

military, titanium frame lock, ambidextrous pocket ss clip

NOT ACTUAL MADE ONE:
spanish "navaja" looking spyderco with 5 inch blade, possibly VG10, ambidextrous ss pocket clip, ss handles with CF inlays and RATCHETING front lock! (multiple teeths at lock place on the blade..)

Well, got a lil temp leaf yesterday...

It'd be perfect with another inch of handle, so we may as well make it a 4" blade too.:D

Slightly larger Police--4 1/2"-5" blade--S30V, four way deep carry clip with integral lanyard hole, "wave" opener, G10 handles, DLC on all metal parts. And no "police" lettering!

After a serious search of the Spyderco web site I'd like to see the following knife added to their lineup, a direct competitor to the Benchmade Ritter Survival Knife MK I...

Use an S30V drop point blade basically identical in shape to the RSK, except perhaps a little taller for the "spidey hole", I like the straight edge and nice upward sweep of the RSK, a VERY usable shape

A grip shaped and sized like the para-military, but with a back lock. I really don't care for the locking mechanism on the Military and Para-military, I can't see having to have your finger in the way of the blade to be able to close the knife, and there are too many other options out there to buy a locking mechanism I don't like.

Make sure it is built to take heavy use and use G10 or green Micarta scales. That would be cool!

Competition is good and I would like to see Spyderco make a knife to directly compete with the Benchmade RSK.

I would gladly provide some sketches, drawings, or input for such a project!

sddlup, Just for clarification the para lock is on the spine and fingers are Never is in the way of the blade during closing. I've actually looked at the mini-rsk and was wondering what may compare in the spydie lineup. Except for the blade shape and handle color (I was interested in the yellow) the calypso Jr. is a great comparison and is available at 40% of the cost. I'm not sure I want to spend the money to compare side by side.
My 3 cents US.

SDDLUP, I doubt that you have any reason to worry about the locks on either the Military or the Paramilitary. The Military uses one of Spyderco's liner locks and I can tell you that there are no better made ones out there, at least not in a production knife. THe Paramilitary uses, if I am not mistaken, a Compression Lock which is just about the strongest, most secure lock going.

Oh, I see. He was talking about getting your fingers in the way when you close the blade. Never had a problem on that score with either my liner lock StarMate or any of several Compression Lock Spydies that I have.

I work in a office so my edc is usually a smaller knife, with a thinner blade.
I would like a thinner blade then what spyderco usually makes, in a warncliff pattern, with a "thumb ramp" over the spydie hole similiar to the Vesuvius.
Size ways a 2 & 3/4 in to a 3 " max blade.
For locking I would use the compression lock. I really like it.
For Handles I like micarta or a smooth carbon fiber. Stiff but light would be the objective.
No clip. This knife would go into my pocket.
My goal is to produce a "sheeple friendly " knife that won't scare my customers when I use it to cut envelopes etc. Not to large, opens one handed, with a thin blade so I can profile it real sharp, less drag cutting etc...
NOW where do I get my commissions ???
Good knife hunting

Boxer93,

Yes on the surface the Calypso Jr. has some appeal. But the thread is "If I could design my own" so....

The Calypso Jr. has an okay blade shape but could be much better and I doubt it is nearly as tough as I'd want. I'd be willing to spend $150 or so to get what I want.

Oh, I'd also like point up carry or the option for point up carry.

Ti frame lock Chinese anodized blue, and with either a bit of a guard, or some serious traction grooves for the thumb and forefinger.

The Koppa is pretty damn close.

Or the Lum Chinese with polished micarta handle.

Something more Toad like (small but still a wide leafy blade) would be fun too.

I would be happy to have the large Chinese Folder, and the proto-type Shabaria that had the 5" blade. G10 handle on the Shabaria please. :)

Blades

OMG, a shabaria with five inch blade and g10 handles would be f#$king awesome!Add maybe just a few ridges on the handle for grip and you would have a totally wicked knife.

I have long had an idea for a redesigned SPOT that would have a minimal kydex sheath which would accept a mini-Teklok. It would also have a clamp that you could attach to a piece of cord that would "bite" the fabric of a pocket. The idea is you could either put it on your belt, or in your pocket and have a static cord kind of setup.

Basically we keep the same blade that's on the SPOT now and make a slightly different handle. I could sketch it I suppose but seeing as how Spyderco is already swamped with millions of design ideas that will never see the light of day I'll save my energy! :D

I'll take a Manix, but with a sharpened edge all the way to the handle.

I really hate 4 inch blades with 3 1/2 blades.

I own many Spyderco's.But of the 3 large tac folders I carry none are. :(

LCC,BM 710,and a custom.

I like big strong tip up knives with good strong locks. The Manix comes so close.

I made it. But it was just a teaser. What I'd really like is an Assisted Endura (well, sort of):
