If you could only choose one Karambit?

A friend of mine has this one; it’s a piece of art, and a mean self defense weapon. If you’re going to get on for SD purposes go whit a fixed blade, it works best for these types of knives.

That damascus looks beautiful. Is the spine sharpened also?

For fixed blade kerambits, Richard Derespina is a god.

That is what a mall ninja is, the nerdy kids that want to be tacticool.

I know, I just think it's a really funny and original statement. Especially the part where you say they aren't up at this hour. It's almost as if they have bed times. But I know it's a really good joke because ninjas don't have bed times.

a waved 5.11 karambit is hard to beat as far as folding karambits go. But there are many custom fixed karambits out there, Strider makes a solid one

Ok, let's try to focus on the OP, and listen to me, the international king of mall ninja !!!!

I have 5.11 journeyman and emerson combat karambit.
5.11 is more ergonomic for large hand and the ring is bigger. I like the V ground but the tip is very thin. You can wave it (C. Mike did it on a couple of S30V Master) or use the ugly tie zip thing.

Emerson is very nice, a solid construction, very sharp... And the wave is so good ! The clip can be fixed on both side for regular or reverse draw.
You should try to handle both before order, but they are 2 of the best choice (third is the Warren Thomas Spyderco), or try Utube:

Saying that you have to know that a folder kbit is plenty of fun but very limited for EDC tasks, and not the best choice for SD.
Fixed kbit are made for that ! My favorites are:
- Derespina (THE REFERENCE)
- Tarani/Strider
- Szabo (box cutter)
- BASTINELLI creation (bastinelli-creations.com)
- Emerson
- Tarani/5.11
- Cold Steel is cheap but good enough

Cutter's Knife and Tool Bengal.
The company may not be running, but e-mail the guy though the link you'll find and he'll hook you up.
No wave, but who cares.
$330 later, you'll have about the coolest, most functional titanium frame-locked karambit out there.:)
And don't let the moron name-callers dissuade you.
They're just cousins once removed of those who don't understand why anyone carries a knife to begin with.
Let's see, a karambit can:
-cut rope
-make feather sticks
-open those stupid clamshell packs better than anything else (go hawkbills!!!)
-makes a great box-cutter
-good carpet cutting knife

About the only thing they aren't good for is cutting things on flat surfaces, like if cutting wires on a table or cutting things on a cutting board.

I have cut steaks with it though.:D

I have a Mantis Midnight Karambit on order. Didn't want to spend any more than $50 for something that would get tossed if I ever carried one and got stopped by LE.

If they take it, they'll likely take you as well.
If you ditch it and they see (which they likely will), then you just made yourself look like a criminal (and they'll take you).
Just some food for thought.
And Mantis sucks; just another heads up. You'll probably end up buying a better karambit later.

I have one of Derespina's production models. Id spend more money on a K were it not for the legal bias against retention features.

i like the fox karambit. it has the emerson wave on it and it has a switch on the side like the spring assisted knives but its not spring assisted but with alittle flick of the wrist it opens easy. heres some pics of the camo one i have

just to let everyone know it is an italian knife so its cheaper then the emerson and there are some differences but the all around quality is the same

I think if you want one, you should buy one :) I bought one for my husband and he's really satisfied, but I don't really see a difference among them besides shape and color. :D Hope you'll find your favorite!
