If you could only have 3 Bucks...

Being of the younger generation, my tastes and choices may be a bit different. I'd take:

the Vantage I EDC (large, dymondwood handles, s30v blade)
a Paradigm Avid because it's a cooler technologically niftier and more gadgety version of the Vantage
a Buck 110FG because the 110 is a such a classic (and, IMO, classy) knife (they're inexpensive but they look great) and I personally find the finger-grooved variant very very comfortable.

Oh hey, I already own my three choices :D

Is it three knives for outdoor use, or three knives for collector's purposes?

I'll go with outdoor use.

1. Bucklite Max Large fixed blade
2. 110 folder
3. 501 Squire

Not the fanciest or most expensive in the Buck lineup, but perhaps some of the best 'using knives' Buck produces.

3 user knives would be

1. Buck 110 2 dot with 440 c blade

2. Buck 118 d2 personal

3. Buck 103 skinner

Those would be my first choices

I would go with the ones I use most...

110 everyday use
105 hunting knife
Nighthawk hiking & nightstand duty

David, it is an older Buck paired up with a Remington 700BDL, but it's chambered for 243.win.
the 243.win, is king at our farm here. Every branch of my family has at least one in the safe. It's kind of the caliber to have I guess, I'm not sure why we all flock to the 243. but it gets the job done real well.
Here's a better pic of the 110.

They have both been with me on more than a few hunts, and they both excel at what they do. With this pair around, I'll have no problems keeping meat in the freezer.

Kalinga pro folder w/ rosewood scales
custom shop 110 w/ nickel silver bolsters, s30v and cherrywood
Vantage pro large

3 users for me would be:
560 Selector with skinning blade, fully serrated drop point, and 110 style clip point blade.

103 Skinner from the 60's

Buck Machete from the custom shop

I use these all the time during hunting season but carry a TNT the rest of the year.

Good question! I'll let people choose for themselves. The choice is definately easier for outdoor use. There's not many situations that you would be unequiped for if you had a good selection, it just comes down to individual style, like choosing between a large vantage or a 110.

Ok, if you'll allow me a bit of blasphemy... What if you wanted to combine the two and choose 3 collectable knives for outdoor use?

I assumed it was three knives.......period.

Which is why I chose beautiful, yet highly functional knives.

;)

For just to have I would take the
> white 124
> wooden 118
> damas sambar 110

for outdoor use:
> 106 hatchet with wooden handle (420HC)
> small foldable tree saw
> 619
((if you accept them all as a knife))

Well, thats what I was going for.... By the way, are your selections blades that you currently have? If so, do you have any pics?

One more question, a bit of topic, Is that you in your avatar? It looks like an image with a lot of history behind it.

No, no......these are dream knives.

And yes, that's me about 1951 with the big rabbit. My dad cut down an old Winchester single shot to fit me.

About 80 yards with a rest (out the window of the car). He told me to hold on the tips of the ears and I managed to hit it in the head. It was sitting upright, looking at us.

My dad and his buddies were far more shocked than I was......I knew I was going to kill it.

:D
