If you could only keep one Spyderco, which is the best Spyderco ever?

I know, I know, not another one of these threads. But I was looking at my collection and noticed once again I am without a PM2.

My problem with Spyderco's are they f*&^ my EDC rotation badly. I.E. If my Delica is lying around I pretty much neglect all other knives no matter what. I recently did something dramatic and the Delica ended up being given away.

Being down a Spyderco I was looking at my favorite combo edge which happened to be a Byrd Cara Cara 2 and just noticed how similar in size it is to a PM2. I've always avoided the PM2 like the plague because everyone in the chatrooms would be like PM2...PM2 and praise all of it's greatness.

I love my Cara Cara 2 but I just wished it had better handles and a nicer steel so there goes my dilemma is the PM2 the be all to Spyderco's collection or do you think there is another Spyderco that is the Alpha and Omega of Spyderco's brand?

I'm really thinking of finally picking up a PM2 and seeing for myself.

I've only been on this site for a short time, but there already seems to be dozens of these threads... ? :o

The PM2 is a great knife but I suppose if I had to choose just one... Tough choice, there are so many and I believe at one point or another I've owned most of them.

A lot would depend on what exactly you're going to do with the knife but knowing the few that you've owned and seem to have enjoyed I'd go with a Stretch or if you want something that's a little more substantial, a Gayle Bradley, maybe even a Manix 2. The new version with the FFG has shaved a little weight off but still takes up a bunch of pocket space. Stout knife though with a few more blade options than the GB.

Thanks for asking the question. It prompted me to replace the combo edged Stretch I lost in the swamp this past summer. Can be had for a great price right now too. Might even grab two. ;)

I'd say Manix 2. I have a full serrated in G10 and another LW in S110v on the way (gave the first one away).

If I could only keep 1, it would be my Manix 2 Ltwt in S110V. I've been a Spyderco fan since unlinered FRN handles were a staple of the line-up, so I love the Manix 2 Ltwt handle and getting S110V for under $100 can't be beat.

It would have to be the Techno for me. It's been a near perfect true every day carry knife.

Delica 4 zdp, Sage 1, PM2 in that order at this time. If you decide on any of these and find it's messing with your EDC rotation you would be welcome to send it my way. :D best of luck

I hear the Manix thrown in the mix a lot but I don't think it's dimensions would suit my hands. The Stretch on the other hand, what does the stretch have over the PM2 in your opinion? I don't think I would do well with a GB.

I love G10 and think it's a step up on FRN. Because FRN is the "cheap stuff". Yet I always end up preferring the FRN over G10. It's a strange habit knife collecting!

I definitely lust for the fluted Millitary!!!! I don't think I could commit to using it. It's so damn good looking though!

So far I've tried:
Delica's -3 (won't get another for a while as I won't use another knife if I have this in my possession)
Endura's
Goddard
UKPK's -3 (need another maybe the G10 or CF this time) lol
Sage 1,2,3
Domino
Tenacious
Persistence
Resilience
Ambitious
SS Kiwi
Cara Cara 2
Ladybug Salt
Caly 3, might get a 3.5 at some point but not sure. It's another knife that is too good.

I would keep the first Southard I purchased, with a maple burl scale by spketch:

I'm not the one who suggested the Stretch, but I'll have a go (I love both the Stretch and the PM2). One thing the Stretch has over the PM2 is blade length compared to handle. The Stretch has a 3.5" blade in a 4.4" handle while the PM2 has a 3.4" blade in a 4.75" handle. Plus, the Stretch's profile when closed is more compact in pocket. I also, personally, prefer FRN to G-10. I know you said that you think of G-10 as an upgrade (and it is in price most of the time), but I have just always loved FRN as a handle material. It's my favorite. If you don't prefer FRN, the newly refined Stretch in G-10 is coming sometime this year. Also, being a Japanese made Spydie, the Stretch is available in both ZDP-189 (regular production) and Super Blue (sprint) which are steels you can't get the PM2 in (although the PM2 has more than its fair share of sprints and exclusives in different steels). My ZDP Stretch would probably come in second to the S110V Manix I answered above with the PM2 coming in 3rd.

The Stretch is just a well thought out knife. Fits in the hand well and is a great cutter.
I just found a combo edge FRN for less than 70 bucks shipped. Can't go wrong giving one a try at that price. I could shake my couch and find more loot than this one cost me. ;)

I have a lot of the fancier Spydercos/other brands but I use the Delica/Stretch/Endura most so Id go with those.

Anti-climactic answer but I'd be lying to myself and you all if I picked something else. These just work so well for me...

I'll have to go with the Military.

Tom

This, pick your steel of choice and roll with the Millie.

It seems a little big....... At first, then everything else seems small. Want that mini Para 2 everyone keeps clamoring about? Just carry a Military for a week or two then pick up the Para 2 again. It magically becomes smaller.

Lotta great knives to choose from. Still - my favorite, and the one that I would keep, is very easy for me to choose. No question that it would be the KW exclusive YO2 w/S90V & CF. My absolute favorite daily user. The Manix 2 LW (S110V) would be a second choice. :)
