If you could only save 8 knives...

I leave my EDC items in the jeans I wore the previous day hanging from the back of a chair in the bedroom. If I needed to make a quick exit in the middle of the night i'd have everything I need.

Doesnt answer the question of 8, but everyone should do this, nobody plans on a fire or having to leave without any notice.

1. BM AFCK
2. BM Blue Star
3. Mini Grip
4. Buck 110
5. Tenacious

No order, just 8 I thought of that I like.

Probably would grab some documents, cellphone, maybe a gun or two and run out of the house with whatever knife was clipped to me. Probably the Spydie Yojimbo and a Rough Rider small whittler in my pocket. There's also a Mora, SAK One-handed Trekker and a Leatherman in the car as well

Honestly, I wouldn't think about knives in that kind of emergency.

Most of the point of the question was just to see which favorites you'd bring and which you'd sacrafice or replace later on. If it were a real fire i'd grab my animals and throw a knife or two in my pocket lol.

I understand, I'm just honestly saying what knives I would probably end-up with.

I have a collection of hundreds of knives built-up over 20+ years, begun when my dad and I began collecting knives. Most of them aren't worth much but I do have dozens of customs in the collection as well, but the most valuable ones are the ones I got from him after he passed away. Most of these are simple, practical and not very expensive. Just my way of looking at things.

Most of them are in a fire rated safe along with my guns. I grab my wife and kid and bug out. Everything else can burn to ash for all I care and there's no way in hell I'm going near my ammo stash to grab some knives in a fire. Knives are just knives.

All my knives are stored in two shoe boxes (low tech for sure) under my bed. So I just grab both and run.

1. S90V Spyderco Military.

2. Busse Killa Zilla 2.

Ide HAVE to start with the kimber pro carry 2 then..

Up until last week I used to store my SAKs in a shoe box, my fixed blades in a ammunition can I got from a surplus store, and most of my other folders in a plastic container with lid and handle and internal removable tray. I bought a Mastercraft tool box which holds them all now, including my sharpeners, for just such an unlikely occurrence like me having to evacuate my house quickly.
That said, if I could only grab 8 they'd probably be:

Victorinox Huntsman
Victorinox custom Farmer with HA III scales, scissors & low-ride pocket clip by scibeer
RAT RC-4
RAT Pack RC-3
Spyderco Jerry Hossom Forester
Spyderco Caly3
Spyderco Dragonfly G10

I have a BRKT bravo necker I really like also, guess it will have to burn along with a SAK and a Delica. Those three would probably get replaced eventually.

If you could only grab 8 knives before you had to exit your house because of a house fire, which would you choose and if you want to include why, feel free.

This sounds similar to what I do when I go camping for a couple of days - I start thinking about whether I really need 20 knives or whether I could cut it back to a more sensible number like about 8.

Anyway, my 8 would be:
Victorinox Cybertool (EDC)
Leatherman Wave (EDC)
Leatherman K502x
Ontario RAT-1
Spyderco Endura
Becker BK-7
Becker BK-9
HI Ganga RAM

Geez, I hit 8 already - I guess I'll need to use the insurance money to replace the rest of my knives. I feel a Mora & Opinel spending spree coming on.

Sadly, most of my knives are in two locked all-glass display cases. That means looking for the key - unwise in an emergency. Also, the sheaths for the fb's are in another cabinet - and most folders, especially my nicer ones, are open and on plastic stands. It's unlikely I'd take the time to find the key and open the cases, much less close the folders and pocket them. I'd have to make do with what was in yesterday's pants pockets - and left with my pocket stuff. Today, that would be:

1. CRK Umnumzaan
2. BM 630 Skirmish
3. Boker Plus CLB Titan SubCom

Also, my least liked fb, a Gerber LMFII, is in my 'grab' briefcase - which has all of my important papers, pix on CD-ROM, etc and is within arm's length of the bed. If I had some spare cash, I'd keep it in there, too... but as it arrives, oddly, it's converted into guns, reloading supplies, and knives!

Actually, in a fire, my first thought would be my wife - then the 7 cats - then getting away from my stockpile of reloaded ammo & supplies (powder & primers)!

Stainz

PS Maybe I need to carry more knives??
