If You Had 25$ To Replace A Manix...

What knife would you choose? I ask this because out of all my go-to folders, the Manix costs about as much as all the rest of them put together. As much as I love this knife, I'm just curious what a more budget friendly version of this would be.

The G10 Cara Cara's from the Byrd line look promising and they fall in this price category. Otherwise I'm not drawing many conclusions when it comes to folders...

I'd buy a $10 hammer and break the knife display and run away with a new Manix. Sometimes stuff costs more for a reason.:) As cheap as I'd go for a heavy duty user knife that I could rely on would be a BM Grip. It's definatly not a Manix though.

I don't mind paying 100$ for another Manix, I plan to at some point because I really like the knife. Just an interesting question that came into my mind.

I suppose if we're going to allow fixed blades, a Mora wouldn't be too bad.

I suppose a Buck 110 would fit most of your needs. It was up from $24.95 to $29.95 at the local K-Mart recently, though.

Even though its a smaller knife, I'd probably get a Ka-Bar Dozier with the thumb hole if I was looking for a cheap, good, locking knife. Mine has been relegated to truck duty, which means its used for such vital functions as using to open bags of munchies as I drive around :o

The 110 is a good choice, didn't think of that. Been too long since I've had one. I really like sharpening 110's...

While we're talking about the Dozier, could someone post a picture of a Dozier next to a Manix or another common Spyderco? Thanks.

I agree, the Buck 110 is about the best knife you can get for the price.
They have excellent fit-and-finish.
They are very strong and rugged.
The blade-grind and blade-design is one of the very best in production in my opinion.
The 110 is a time tested knife that has proven itself for over thirty years.
And they still look beautiful too.

The only real drawbacks are the weight and the blade-steel.
And the blade-steel is'nt really that bad, you just have to sharpen it a little more often.

Good luck,
Allen.

You have got to be kidding me. A new Manix can be bought online for $100. Yesterday, it cost me $85 to fill up my 30 gallon SUV gas tank. The Manix is a lot of knife for a little more than a tank of gas. Just think about it. Better yet, just buy it. You're stuck in the old days, before inflation.

Vivi, you might want to look at the less expensive but no less capable Spydercos such as the Endura and the Delica. Yes, they cost more than $25, but you really do get what you pay for in this world.

Yet another Buck 110 fan here, although I prefer a 501 or 55 for pocket-carry. Another benefit to a "classic" style knife is that if you do take it out to open a bag of chips, it looks like a "pocket" or "hunting" knife, as opposed to a black-coated serrated evil-lookin' weapon that will skeer the sheeple.

Another vote for the Buck 110....one of my EDC's....the new blade cutting angle Buck is putting on them makes them wicked and easier to sharpen....after you carry the 110 for a few days the weight is no problem.

Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara w/G-10 handles. 4" blade, oal-8 5/8". Of course the Byrd won't replace a Manix but it is a fairly large, well made folder with G-10 handles that sells for for 25 bucks.

Folks, I own a Manix and am very satisfied with it, I plan to buy another. This isn't a question of how much you or I are willing to spend on a knife, just a hypothetical question that I personally found interesting to try and answer. That's all.

I need to order me one of those Cara Cara's. Looks like one hell of a deal.

i like the Kabar Dozier... i'm planning on getting one for traveling because i won't miss it much if it goes missing out of my checked luggage
