If You Had 25$ To Replace A Manix...

I would choose an Opinel 10 or 12. Not as fancy a Manix, but it will get the job done.

If a fixed blade is an option, a Mora 2000 comes to my mind.

I would find a large rock in the woods, hide around a conner and put the $25 on the ground where my friend who EDC's a manix would surly see it. When he reaches for the money- i hit him with the rock. It's simple, you wont find a better knife to replace the manix than another manix.

Good idea. And with whom do you replace your formerly Manix-carrying friend ?

With someone who EDC's a Sebenza!

From there proceed to step one: Find a large rock in the woods... ;)

Could someone post some photos of the Dozier so I can judge the size? There doesn't seem to be any threads with them on the forums.

I'd just like to see some photos of one near other common knives or something to compare. I've seen dealer photos but I've never seen someone here post a photo of their Dozier.

I haven't been into knives for that long. I've owned just a few over my life, but now I've got the bug, and I'm looking to move up to something better/nicer than my Kabar-Dozier. So while browsing the forum, I cam across this thread. Best I can do for pics is showing it alongside the Bucklite I used to carry. Best thing about the Kabar-Dozier is the thin profile compared to the Bucklite. I've had my K-D about a year now, and I like it a lot, but then I don't have anything good to compare it too.

Thanks for the photos, they helped.

I decided I'm trading the Manix, despite it being one of my favorite knives. I really like my Opinels and SAKs, they do all I need a folder to do around town. When I go to the woods, SAKs still excel tremendously with their whittling blades, saws, awls and wood chisels. Mora's make a good backup. :)

I just hope my 110 comes in the mail before I trade the Manix so I can do a comparison more accurately.

Opinels, SAKs, Buck 110 and 112 are all good affordable knives. I have expensive customs and my Opinels still manage to find their way to my pocket.

You should also take a look at the Benchmade Pika. I got the Mini-Pika (the fullsize was sold out) a week ago and I'm loving it, great little knife for the price.

Just wanted to update this thread. Since the original post I've traded off the Manix and received an Opinel #10, a Buck 110 and a G10 Meadowlark.

The Opinel is beefy at this size. I'm going to order 2 or 3 more because I really like them. The handle is big and comfortable, though I might sand it into a slightly thinner shape for easier pocket carry and a mora oval grip shape. The blade cuts very well like my other Opinels and it's long enough to take on some batoning. This makes it a great knife to carry in the outdoors because it slices vegetation well with it's thin, long blade, cuts great wood shavings and can split wrist thick branches down to smaller section easily.

The Buck 110 is very solid and heavy. I don't mind the weight, it feels good. I was surprised with how well the hollow grind in this cut. The edge seems a bit too obtuse on the factory edge, I'll be reprofiling it whenever I find a new sharpening stone. The handle is very comfortable and the feel of brass and wood is pleasant compared to modern materials, much like on the Opinel. The blade has developed slight play in all directions, but the lockup is still as solid as you could ask for from a lock-back.

The Meadowlark really impressed me. It's roughly a G10 Delica with a finger choil, hollow saber grind as opposed to flat and a stylish steel backspacer. The edge came at a good angle out of the box, but it could be taken down a few degrees. For now I'll just steel the edge back into alignment and once it wears down I'll take the edge down some. I traded off my Delica 4 because the grip just didn't fit me right, so I'm pleased to support that the meadowlark feels good both in and out of the choil. I have 3 different grips that feel good on this knife, not counting any reverse grips. I plan to order a couple Cara Cara's because they'll offer more blade reach and even better ergonomics for my hands. This is one of the best buys out there alongside SAKs and Opinels.

Perhaps something from Gerber or Buck. For a few dollars more you can go with a Kershaw or possibly a BM Griptillian.

"Fold the money over to create 50 dollars, then buy a d`allara DP. The poor man's manix."

Good point. I have always said the DP D'allera is the poor man's Manix. It about half the cost but still a heck of a solid and well made knife. If I didn't have a Manix already or couldn't quite afford the $100 for one, I would get the DP D'allera.

The D'allera is about $50 so that is still twice what you wanted to spend. I really can't think of a knife that is as good as the D'allera for the money if you want a beefy and strong folder. For $25, I can't even think of a decent knife. A buck is stong but it is not a one hand open and close type knife. It doesn't even have a pocket clip so it is not even really a knife in my book. I would never carry a Buck again now that there are Spydercos and Benchmades.

When I was about 11, I carried a 112 in a belt sheath for about 5 years. I used the heck out of that knife and it took the use well. It didn't cut as well as a Manix and was not as useful either. The Manix blade is far better than anything ever put on a Buck 110 or 112.

I always take the pocket clips off my knives, and I've got about 20 two handed opening knives compared to about 3 one handers. :D

i like the frn cara-cara, because it's lighter, but well balanced,
and you wouldn't be afraid to attack a tree with it.
i disassembled and polished the pivot points and it's very smooth now.

peace

It doesn't even have a pocket clip so it is not even really a knife in my book.
Are you serious?

One of the classics of the knife world that has been serving knife users and knife lovers for over thirty-five years, and you don't even consider it to be a KNIFE?!?

Are Opinels really knives?
If you remove the pocket-clip from a Benchmade 710, does it cease to be a knife?
If you remove the pocket-clip from a Sebenza, does it cease to be a knife?

You can't be serious.

You are right on the money. Cara Cara all the way...AWESOME blade let alone cheap. Best deal ever.

The Manix blade is far better than anything ever put on a Buck 110 or 112.

Not talking about size or shape or issues like lock strength I find I like the BG42 from the Buck custom shop 110 I've got over S30V. I have a manix and I wouldn't trade it away, but Perhaps they'll do a sprint manix in S90V or 3V or even BG42 like the military some day. Joe
