If you had $50 to spend on a Kershaw, what would you get?

My trusty Japanese-made Black Colt's main spring snapped in half, so I sent it to Kershaw for repair. I got back a letter saying, basically, "We can't fix it but here's a coupon for $50 toward any knife on our web site." Decent of them.

Looking over the web site, a lot of their current production knives look pretty similar, to the point that I can't decide which I want.

So what would you do if you were in my shoes? Any there that are particularly good? If I had to toss in a few bucks I would, so the $50 isn't a hard limit.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would look for a used US-made Kershaw Zing... one of the coolest flippers I've yet owned. Sadly, I gifted *both* of mine away not knowing just how close I was to the end of their production run... :(

Good luck, OP! :)

Any of the leeks are great knives, but msrp is quite a bit more than 50 dollars. The link is a nice knife, I prefer the feel of the plastic handle model in hand, but the aluminum handle is a little thinner and fits more comfortably in a pocket. The skyline is a good knife, so are the knockout and blur. The street price vs msrp makes most of the usa made knives a poor choice, since in most cases the street price is aboit 50 less than msrp, it makes the credit seem kind of silly. Of the imports with a msrp around $50 I really like the G10 Cryo, Strobe, Clash and Injection.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the Kershaw that I am loving right now is the Kershaw CQC-9K. Out on a limb, because it's not made in the USA and it's 8Cr13MOv. But it rocks! I have one in my pocket right now - even though it hasn't made the EDC rotation yet, it's still in the trial period.

The Knockout is very nice if you are going for a U.S.A. made Kershaw, but $50 doesn't even get you halfway home at MRSP. You've got $50 credit at MRSP, not at any authorized Kershaw dealers "street price" - right?

No-brainer.... a Kershaw/Emerson CQC-6K

...and a pizza with the remaining $20.

Our definitions of "trusty" are different apparently.

Problem here is that on some models the MSRP, which is what you'll pay on their site, is $50 or more above what you can find the listed at elsewhere.

I'd want a launch 4, but I think I'd really only be saving 5-10 dollars with me $50 coupon, so I'd probably buy a Strobe for $59.99. $10 out of pocket for a Diskin designed flipper. Great knife.

I've also wanted to check out the Decoy. I might've bought 2 of them. Would make good gifts if I decided I didn't like them.

I carried/used it for many years. I'm honestly kind of disappointed that Kershaw is getting out of the traditional lockback type knives.

You haven't told us much about your knife preferences, so I gotta go with what works for me.

Given your restraints of a Kershaw MSRP site purchase, I'd go with the Valmara if you don't want to spend extra bucks, or the plastic handle Link (either drop point or tanto) if you're willing to spend an extra $10 bucks.

I'd advise against spending over the $50 limit as you'll be sending good money after bad. You may even have to pay for return shipping. Just get the Valmara and enjoy.

I'd probably go with either a folding Lone Rock if you want something Black-colt-ish with a back lock, or a Select Fire as just the best value in that price range.
