If you had an endless budget, would knife collecting...

To answer my own question, it would be fun for the first year or so. After receiving everything you want when you want it, for so long, the satisfaction would without a doubt dissipate. But then again, you'd have so much more money to do and buy so many other things, one would forget about knives for a while. The Emperor's villa at Caesar's in Las Vegas tends to make people forget things.
This.

I doubt something as mundane as knife collecting would be that much interest to a person of unlimited wealth. Sports cars, airplanes, rare medieval armor, long-legged blondes, etc would be much more fun to collect.

If I had endless large amounts of money, I would open up a knife store! Low prices and family run (because if I had an endless budget for knifes, then I think that I would be fairly well of in the other parts of my life). This way I get to play with knifes all day, go to all the shows, and spread the joy! :)

I am in the "prolly not" camp. I remember a story, I think it was Mark Twain, talking about how when he was looking at a case full of beautiful knives he could hardly ever choose one, but once he had one and only one, it was beautiful. I feel something similar. I have lots of knives that I once really liked, but they sit in a drawer most of the time. I do not think having 1000 would be more enjoyable than 100. Prolly 100 would not be any better than the 10 or so I have now. Now the reasonable question I cannot quite answer is "then why do I continue to buy them?"

If I had an unlimited budget I wouldn't change my knife collecting much, the knives I buy would be alot higher end but I'd still buy knives and I'd still use them just as hard. I would also still rotate some of my current knives even tho they're much cheaper than the ones I'd be buying.

I'd surely still enjoy the hobby.

I would probably have all the knives I was interested in after a while and get bored of the hobby. :O
I've been known to do that with other hobbies.

I'm I would end up buying a few more ZT's to start. I've wanted an ESEE or two for a while as well. After that I suppose I would start branching out into others that catch my eye and go from there.

I would start getting into Striders and CRK and Hinderer, but I would still buy Spydercos, Benchmades and Kershaw.
Just because you're rich beyond belief doesn't mean that "the big 3" brands are bad all of a sudden.
The fit and finish on my Adamas and Leek are fantastic.

Honestly, I'd probably start abusing my knives. I wouldn't care if I broke it prying if I'm loaded and could just buy another. ;)

Good idea and have free giveaways all day along.

I submit that….the effect would be something you can't readily imagine. While you may feel fairly satisfied with the relatively-little you presently have, the spiritual void-factor would kick-in in earnest: You would come to not really be able to appreciate what you have, nor anything new for very long at all; would need more and more to get the 'effect', would have someone hired as conservator of your collection busy, day and night, hunting out and acquiring whatever they think you may like….and, you would certainly be quite busy with many other interests and pursuits, none of which would fill the void, either.

Human, or the 'first-Adam', nature is a 'bottomless pit'….and, of course, a bottomless pit cannot be filled since, no matter WHAT you put in nor HOW MUCH of it, it will never be filled given that there is no bottom/base FROM which it can be filled.

Enjoy whatcha got…… The fulfillment we seek, is from another realm/substance.

If I had an endless budget, I would probably never think about a knife again, except when eating.

For a couple weeks I suppose. I'm going to show my age here, but my answer is no. I used to play a lot of video games, and I could use cheat codes, unlimited money, life, ammo, etc. it's fun for a hour or so, but without the challenge, eh. The chase and finally getting "that" knife is half the fun for me. :)

I
If you had an endless budget would collecting knives be as fun or as much as a hobby as it once was?

Duder

Yep, then I could not only not have to decide between picking up a new knife or picking up a new DVD/CD/Game I want, I could also pick up all the knives that I can't justify paying for currently.
