Hello fellow knife nuts! I know this is a tough one but if you had to choose one knife company which would you choose and why?

I would probably choose Buck, they've produced very dependable knives for me over the years and most of their knives are presentation grade right out of the box.

Take care . . .

I would have to say I'd go with Spyderco. Their folders are top notch, and it is looking like they are making some fixed blades that are up to the quality I have grown to expect recently.

They also have some of the best stuff I have seen up on the boards for future release.

All i can say is Microtech

I would say for me that Benchmade has been the best knife company. Why? To me all of thier designs are good and they are very well made knives and they make them out of good materials.

Tough choice between MICROTECH and CRK.

Benchmade, definitely. They make quality products, have an extensive lineup, and are very innovative.

Honorable mention to Spyderco who also make quality products, have a great lineup, and are very innovative.

Tough choice, but the Axis lock rules!

For me it would have to be Spyderco. Great folders and looks like great new fixed blades as well. The MBC series is going to suck my wallet dry.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

It can only be between Benchmade, Microtech, and my choice Masters of Defense!!!

I love Florida!

Benchmade, when quality & style count

Would also like to include Spyderco and CRKT.

Buck or Chris Reeve. Opposite ends of the price spectrum but both offer excellant Customer Service and take their trade seriously with the consumer/user in mind.

For the money, Buck knives have much to offer and, as stated above, they are like presentation grade out of the box. CRK, it's almost like what I tell people about Harleys ... if I had to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand!

Honorable Mentions and (ah, er) Mentions:

I have Spyderco and like their products but see them as less than great value in their "pinned together Zytel without liner" models. Better designed and executed knives can be had for the same money.

Benchmade. What can I say, do a search. They have really nice designs, good material choices but seem to want to play in the premium market with budget QC. They have nice stuff, but their execution leaves something to be desired for the price range they want to keep themselves in. I did NOT say price fixing!

CRK&T. But for the fact that Buck has been around for so long, they could be well on their way to following in the footsteps of a company who puts to markey good quality for the money. It may be 40 or 50 years too soon to tell, but CRK&T seems to give bang for the Buck (punn alert).

Emerson. Gotta love the Wave but sheeeeeeech, it's like a fifty dollar folder in some regards with a $150 optional Wave feature. I like the Commander so much that I am angry FOR Emerson, not AT them for their failure to honor such a great design and style with better execution. Did I hear someone say '98 ?

AlMar. The SERE 2K is built the way a user folder should be. For the price, I could not belive the quality, fit and finish. What the H happened with the autos though?

Microtech. I do not have one and, on this issue, know not of what I speak ... so I won't.

If I could only pick one company it would be Spyderco. Spyderco seems to have a better relationship with the ELU than most companies. They are very receptive to feedback. As a matter of fact Sal Glesser frequently asks for constructive criticism and feedback. They are always looking at the next thing. They are innovators and usually ahead of the curve.

They also make excellent knives.

Since I prefer fixed blade carbon steel blades, I would go with Cold Steel despite the mediocrity of the handles.

Camillus
They have a full line. Others suffer. Camillis has long knives , hi tech folders (now) , jack knives, utility knives.
The one comapny that has it all.

Damn that's a tough question- I believe I'll have to go with the majority here and say Spyderco. They seem to be one of the few companies that offer a wide selection of knives with blade sizes smaller than "3.X inches"- in other words, they actually make knives that can be carried without fear of legal consequences. I never have understood why so many manufacturers are compelled to put that ".X" fraction of an inch on a 3 inch blade.
Also, my Delica has outperformed knives costing over twice as much, proving once again that inflated prices mean little when it comes to knife performance.

Spyderco.

I have been carrying a Spydie (different models) for the past 15 years.

Wow! That's a tough choice. If I had to choose one company, I would have to go with BENCHMADE. The have consistently produced quality products of excellent design and I have never been dissapointed with any of the Benchmade knives I own.
