If you order a Lenox Diemaster II blade from MSC...

through Amazon, expect to receive a generic blade labelled "matrix bandsaw blade" with no label of any kind indicating it's made by Lenox or that it's their Diemaster II line.

Truth is, I have no idea who made this blade. If I wanted a "matrix" blade, I'd have ordered a bloody "matrix" blade.

I thought I'd get this out here - both to get more info, and to warn people what to expect...lord know the nice guy at MSC isn't able to explain it yet. He's supposed to be calling me back.

All of my 1/2" Diemaster 2 stock has Diemaster 2 written on the blade, if yours was a 1/2 inch blade it would have Diemaster 2 on it. The 3/8 and 1/4" stock does not. Starrett is one of the brands that uses the term Matrix for Bi-metal, Lenox does not.

I ordered one from MSC directly and it was marked "Die Master 2"
1/2" X 93 1/2" was the size 14-18 TPI

I've ordered from them before and returned items with no problem.

They're telling me they have separate inventory for amazon. What do I know. I googled lenox diemaster II and picked from the vendors, threw the dice. Now I have 2 blades I don't want and they're supposed to refund my money within 2-4 days. The guy also wants me to open a direct account and get a 25% break on the actual blade I want.

meanwhile I'm tempted to go find it in a walk-in store here in San Diego.

I just recieved what i thaught were two lennox diemaster 2 blades. but one was labelled on the blade "lennox" and one was not. the unlabelled one if far better (imo). i'm blown away by it and i'm cutting 1/4" 6al4v. i'm going to start asking for unlabelled blades :) now i just need to test how long it will last...., time will tell.

maybe they just shipped you the wrong product.

LOL maybe, but after I complained they said yes, they sent the wrong one and they;d send another. But when it got here it was another of the exact same blades.

I've bought Lenox diemasterII from MCS for years with never a problem. I have an
account and watch for the 25-40% dicounts emails.

It hurts to be human sometimes. I've packed guitar wood orders and shipped to Europe only to be told there was 5..not 6 items that was ordered. Sure enough the missing piece was sitting on the shipping bench. Paying for the one piece shipping was most of my profit :( My standard reply was, "hey..I'm a wood cutter....not a math genius". On the other hand, no one complained when the order was 6 and I put in 7 :)

Yes but they might chirp a little if they ordered highly figured Koa, but you sent cedar...and then more cedar, after telling them you'd shipped the proper stuff...

Amazon is basically a discount house. Who knows what they're passing along. I happen to be pretty close to someone who works for MSC so I'll ask about the "seperate inventory" thing.. No guarantee on an answer tho, she sells mostly to factories and such, don't know how familiar she is with their retail-type operations. In any case it sounds like the problem is with Amazon.

If you want to deal with MSC, deal with them directly. I think you'll be pleased. They're one of the few companies whose email list is actually worth being on, in my opinion.

EDIT: before anyone asks, NO I can't get you wholesale prices on stuff through MSC. Believe me, I asked :)

Tippet, I spoke to my friend. She says something sounds weird, "MSC's claim to fame is you always get the exact brand you ordered." I can't PM you, (I'm a cheapo non-paying member) but if you email me, I will reply with her direct office number and she will get you squared away. Let's just say she's not pleased to hear about this and wants to make sure you're happy.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not making anything off this, nor is my friend. I'm not a spokesman for MSC or anything like that. Hope this isn't in violation of any forum rules. If it is, please let me know and I will delete the post.

Thanks anyway James, I decided to go with a different company. Thanks to everyone for the tips, links, and info.

I've heard some people refer to bimetal blades as matrix type blades. Maybe that's where that came from. If it was actually a Diemaster 2, the blade would have had that etched on it.
I buy directly from MSC- rarely do I ever have a problem. Somehow, buying MSC products thru Amazon doesn't make good sense. I just don't trust Amazon.

Also, I'm working with a fellow who is getting his bandsaw blade business off the ground. He specializes in Lenox blades, and is particularly interested in supplying the knifemakers. I'll post some info when I get it.

I've noticed a few people saying Amazon is the problem, not MSC; I don't doubt buying direct would be a different experience- but Amazon or not, I bought the thing from MSC, I paid MSC, and MSC shipped me the wrong product. It was MSC I contacted to fix the problem, and MSC who sent another of the same wrong products, and it was MSC who took over a week to process a refund. So in my book it was MSC who dropped the ball.
