If you were a mountain man in 1804

We'll load it on our space freighter and special equipment from the technology traded to us by aliens for INFI. :D :D

Have you been riding in one of Jerry's booze wagons again! :D ;)
Probably a BM and a Boss st.

I'm an old skool kinda gal, so just my infi SHSH and SHBA. If I can't do it with those, it don't need done! :D

All I'd need is a Badger Attack.
But, I'm not a mountain man I'm an Indian. :D

I'd take the original Battle Misttress. . .

That's right, JENNIFER.

You guys take the blades, I'm taking the redhead!

out of 33 (serious) responses so far, 21 would be taking some version of the Battle Mistress: 16 BM, 5 BWM

Thin was in back then, and for good reason. But if I had to pick two Busse's it would be a SFNO LE and an ABA.

I'll keep it light since I will have other gear on me,

BWM -large chore
Sarsquatch/SJtac - medium chores
BAD- for small chores

Ken44: I'd like to hear more: why did the mountain men prefer thin blades?

was that for larger fighting blades as well as smaller skinning knives?

They sliced much better, and where lighter. And there wasn't really many thick blades made back then to choose from anyway. The thicker blades didn't really start showing up alot untill more recent years.

Back in the 70's when I started hunting, most in the south was still using a 1/16 wide blade, and I know a few older gents that still do.

CG FBM for large blade to cut small saplings for shelter and firewood. attached to pack
SFNO for everyday carry on my belt for work and fighter
Boss street as a boot knife/piggyback or camp work/food, whittling, small chores.

These would do the trick for me. but the big questions is What Boots would you wear :-)

heading out with the Lewis and Clark expedition across the unexplored wilderness of the western United States...

and had access to the full range of Busse blades...

which knives would you take with you? and why?

Boney Active Duty for most chores, SFNO satin sabre for just about everything else and a Silent Knight for what the first 2 couldn't handle. :)

For Boots, there are a few that work well, but my favorites for durability and comfort over the long haul are my Danner Goretex Arcadias, Danner GTX are good ones as well.
If your feet are happy the rest of you is usually doing pretty well, foot care is often overlooked, but when your main source of transportation is your feet, $$ should not be an issue for what is basically what I like to call, "your weapon platform" Picked up some desert Danner arcadias for my son going to Iraq, and he said of all his gear they were truly worth their weight in gold.
I also like my Mattahorns, and some Rocky boots, but If I had to pick on pair, it would be my Danners.
Lets talk back packs next! :-)

I'd take two: SFNO = decent chopper and fighter and ABA for more delicate tasks/bushcraft/eating.

Not sure about which boots though.

I guess I will be the first to say HOGFSH for a 1 blade all rounder. FFBM for heavier and Boss street for lighter. I am very impressed with any FSH that I have.

Yep.

I too like Danner boots... and LL Bean's Cresta boots are fine midweight boots as well:
