Business, business casual, and outright casual are totally different things. What will carry well in jeans or work clothes will not be the same as dockers, let alone dress pants.

I've come to appreciate how well a penknife of 3-1/4" will fit in suit pants. I have a Northwoods (Queen made) Senator (equal-end penknife) that all but disappears in the left front pocket of a suit. I don't even feel the weight of it, and the rounded bolsters makes it easy to carry. The spear and carpenter blades are razor sharp and so thin they seem to melt through whatever I am cutting.

When I'm wearing Carharts, I would never choose that knife, it just wouldn't seem right. I'd go for a bigger knife like a stockman, jack or mini-trapper, or I'd even go with a smaller knife with a boxy profile like a Peanut. But that Senator just wouldn't seem right--it would feel too inconspicuous, like it didn't have enough presence to stand up to the 12 oz. canvas of the work pants.

Ladies and their shoes/jewelry have nothing on us. Pocketknives are like working jewelry for men. I gave up wearing a ring a long time ago. I just don't like to wear jewelry on me. But pocket jewelry? That's another matter!

Now, where's my Case/Bose Norfolk? :o:D

I voted 3 5/8" and even though it's slightly bigger I consider 3 5/8" and 3 1/2" the same. They fill the same and carry the same to me.

Keep the votes coming and comments coming:)

I have to wonder... Since this poll states, "If you were confined to ONE size slipjoint", some folks went a little bigger on their vote than what they truly carry on a regular basis:confused: Kind of the way a lot of hunters tend to choose more gun than they really need for deer "just in case I go out west someday"

Don't worry I've got another poll in mind:D

I went through several of my slipjoints I have carried, from 3-inch to over 4-inch. 3 5/8th's folders seem to be my favorites. I like to mix them up, but if had to have only one, that would be the numbers.

Enjoy all the comments.

I've collected and grown very fond of the large stockman pattern, particularly from Case. As time goes on, I think it's likely the one I'll have left after I've sold all my other knives, when that time comes. It's big enough to handle most of the more aggressive tasks I'll likely ever see, and the 3 different blade options in one tidy package make it all the more attractive.

So, I'll say my favorite size for EDC would be in the 3-3/4" to 4-1/4" ballpark.

I choose 3 1/2" but it could have been 3 5/8"

I have a Queen Dogleg trapper, Mini-Trapper, and a S&M Stockman.
These three are 3 1/2" and very comfortable to carry and use.

But Canoes, Stockmans and Copperheads at 3 5/8" are so close to 3 1/2" it makes no difference in carry

I often carry 3 1/4" Stockmans, but they are much smaller in blade size and are smaller to carry and easily fit in a watch pocket

I voted 3-3/4 because anything smaller than 3-1/2 is definitely too small to be a useful tool in my (large) hands and anything larger than 4" is too bulky in the pocket for an edc.

Interesting poll
