If you were to go to war today, which knife would you take with you?

It would have to be a Emerson with a wave feature. #1 model would be the Commander for me

CQC-7 is not as good as the Commander. But still has the wave feature for the fastest deployment of any knife.

Bark River Bravo 1 (3v or Cruwear), Winkler Crusher Belt Knife, or Spartan Harsey Tactical Trout...depending on sheath attachment options...but think the Winkler would be my choice.

My “going to war” days ended a decade ago, but if they called be back I’d carry a Swiss Army Knife, just like I did for 25 years. Either a Huntsman or a Compact would do fine.

It would be job dependent of course but if I went back in I would have nearly the same setup but different named blades.

Much to the chagrin of my Plt Cmdr, CO and just about everyone else with shiny stuff on his collar I did (and would always) carry a fixed blade, my choice now would be a CS SRK or a Grohmann #3 Army. I would also have a Leatherman Wave or EOD and would have a canoe or medium stockman in my pocket. Back in the day I also carried a boot knife that I sometimes attached to my vest.

They only thing I would add to my old kit is that I would sew a CS Gurkha Kukri into my pack. I haven’t left home without one for the last decade. It’s truly one of my favorite things in the world.
You EDC a CS Gurkha Kukri? How do you go about that?

I carried a bunch of different folders while in uniform but, my favorite was CRKT Prowler. It is discontinued so I think maybe a Utilitac 2 or what ever the Exchange has.

Most certainly a multi-tool of some sort and maybe a SAK.

Not sure about a fixed blade. I own an OKC Ranger Falcon so maybe that.

A multi tool is a must, IMO.

EDIT: If I was to go back in uniform, I could then justify the purchase of an Emerson CQC7.:)

Complex answer.
1. I outfitted a Marine unit in the First Gulf War. They wanted the Spyderco Endura, relatively new at the time. Mundane tasks and they didn't care whether the knife was worn down to a nub. They said that they would order more.'
2. Much earlier than that, I had been in central, southeast, northern Asia. I wanted a Buck 110.
3. For 3 nieces in their early '20's who are always at risk as girls, and without knife skills, Cold Steel folders.
4. For my son, with no knife skills, 40 something and on the road every day, I gave him an Ontario TFI. By the way, I think that like so other Ontario Ranger Series knives, I believe it is being discontinued. I picked up I believe my 4th this week.
5. When you have had the training in knife fighting, it doesn't matter what knife you are handed to work with. You specified "combat". Ok, I am not a combat candidate - way too old. In the bedroom office: one Spyderco Endura, two Spyderco Police models, Al Mar fixed blade, Russian made Kizlyar Supreme fixed blade, a Barry Dawson tanto knife that I commissioned for a specific situation when I was widowed and had a small child, a Barry Dawson wakazashi in a wood sheath that I commissioned. Of course, there is a Leatherman Wave in a drawer. The only "combat" I will encounter is on my daily walks on a .6 mile up and down circuit. Then I carry a modified early modified Endura.
