If you're sitting on the fence about a Strider - Get off of it!

Whenever I see pictures of Striders like yours I always think, 'dang, those are awesome knives'. But after I eventually bought one for myself to try I discovered that the knife looks great on the page but the design is just weird. The only way to use it is by choking up on the blade. That seems odd to me. Granted I had a SMF. Maybe the SNG would work better.

I love the spearpoint, flat grind and stonewashed variants and they get the best out of the steels they use but unfortunately the design and ergos just don't work for me. That said I may end up with another one some day, you never know. They do work but not as well as my Spydies.

Gunny,

Great review. I've been on the fence for a few years on buying a strider. Recently, I bought a user SnG (lego S30V) and I'm very impressed with it. Super comfy, dependable blade that gets the job done. With that being said, I just purchased a user SMF (lego CPM-154) that should be here next week. My Striders will get along just fine with my Springfield and Sig...:D

Let us know you thoughts on your new smf, I have been looking at them, wondering how they are?

They're pretty good.
You'll want to reprofile the edge though, unless the only thing you like doing is stabbing rocks and digging in dirt (the factory edge is quite obtuse).
Like someone else mentioned, the SmF seems to feel better in hand when you choke up with the choil.

When reprofiled, it makes a decent woods folder. :)
