Just ranting :)

I have had multiple deals on multiple sites (here and music gear sites) fall apart recently due to people saying "I'll take it" and then changing their minds.

For every 25 great transactions I have, there is always one that ruins my day.

And naming names etc. just seems to go down the path of retaliatory feedback on most sites.

Blah.

Now a days, younger people are praised for erratic behavior. It's only going to get worse from here on in.

Making a habit of that is a good way to get on my ignore list.

So is making me an offer, having it accepted, then asking me to take less.

I've listed a couple knives with a price and an OBO, had someone post "I'll take it", then ask me my best price by pm. They were nice guys, I just think those posts/ PM's should be in different order. I'm right, no?
(I am probably opening myself up to that question with the OBO...)

I think you're right. If I see an "I'll take it" in a thread, I move on. that person might have just cost you a sale if he doesn't like your best price.

If you would like to name names go right ahead.

Leaving retaliatory feedback on a deal that didn't happen is now a 50 point infraction... you can thank Spark for that :)

Nah. I've had one knife returned because the detent wasn't to their liking, a local friend bail on a backup sale, someone pay for it and then tell me they really don't want it (refund issued but then get salty with me when they see this thread), and then the person who called "seconds!" also bail.

I've been buying and selling on here for a dozen years and this is definitely a newer occurence.

I had a similar issue with a piece of music gear recently where I had added rubber feet to the bottom and one fell off. Buyer wanted a full refund because now it wasn't perfect. So I refunded, removed the remaining 3 feet, and re-sold it "like-new" a day later.

Like I said - just venting :)

I really enjoy selling and trading with like-minded people who are excited and happy with deals, and even those who get in too deep and list the same knife for sale a day after receiving. We have all been there :)

I like to post an "I'll take it" and then I pretentious to be a Princess of the Gumdrop Kingdom and offer candy in place of payment.

Or, pretend I'm a unicorn, and offer rainbow colored Ice Cream that I poop out....... though, come to think of it, ice cream does not mail to well without investing in dry ice, good packaging and mail that gets to its recipient relatively quickly. All of which I'm too frivolous and empty headed to do, whether I'm pretending to be a Gumdrop Princess, or a Unicorn that poops rainbow colored ice cream.

Eureka! I'very just figured out why no one accepts my offers, and puts me on ignore...........

Bunch of Racist Gumdrop Princess hating, Unicorn judging jerks!

Different order? I say nay. The latter shouldn't happen at all. If they said "I'll take it", then they should take it at the asking price. If they want to send an offer, send an offer. Asking what the "best price" someone will accept is not an offer. And best for who? The buyer or the seller?

Even if you see FIRM (or no trades) in an ad you still may get folks trying to haggle and send offers. OBO to me, looks more like a base line to start negotiating rather than a listed price.

In the future, if someone asks what my best price is, I think I will double my asking price and see where it goes from there. Thinking on it, triple would be better.

Here's an idea. Why not post your paypal info in the "For Sale" thread?

Is it For Sale? Or not..........

1st these threads are open to all on the internet to see, and you really don't want that sort of info provided to everyone
2nd. The payment should be done in a controlled manner, where it is 1st confirmed that you are 1st in line then payment. You don't want multiple people sending money. Some do the I'll takes by PM, or Email vs in the thread or it may even be listed on another forum. It is not always obvious as to who is 1st in line. Others still will try to jump people ahead of them if the item is desirable enough.
So there are potential dangers in listing it as well as the potential for confusion as to who should be paying.

Honestly the basic system works. You see something you want. You reply to the thread saying "I'll take it" and then you send a PM asking for their PayPal info. They send you their info. You pay. They send the knife. You cut some stuff. The end. :)

PayPal should not be posted for the reasons that braillediver and Peter Hartwig mention. Even posting your email for communication in the thread is not too wise for the reasons stated. Just within the past month, there was a thread was posted here in the GBU highlighting this.

Indeed.

Oh, and do try to post some feedback if it was a good or bad experience.
