I'm a punk noob

Are there bad dealers on here or something? The dude that contacted me is a dealer on here with great feedback. It was $400 for a brand new TB

If it is the one I am thinking of, he is a notorious knife flipper who buys all the good deals he can find, then jacks up the prices. And, apparently likes preying upon unsuspecting new guys who don't know any better. The MSRP on that knife is less than $300.

Come on now guys, instead of talking bad on people on this forum, why don't we try to provide the new guy with the information he is looking for? Facts are helpful and then you can let him decide for himself what he would like to do. If you really want to help, why don't you sell him yours or help him find one?

Here is a thread where it all began:

I'm not a fan of dealer prices either, but since when does MSRP mean anything? It seems "going rate" has always been more of a factor than MSRP. I think if we stuck to MSRP we'd all be happier, but its rarely the case.

This is what makes my skin crawl. The constant preying upon new guys is sickening, it's parasitic behavior on the part of the dealer.

For me, this nonsense has changed the entire tone of this forum.

Thats true
times like now, some models are being sold below MSRP
but when I need to buy something, thats never the case :)

Hey,on a happier note
I ran across this funny cartoon :D

Well, I see a guy that has chosen a knife that he wants to buy, post a thread asking for help.

Then I see a bunch of guys complain and wine. But nobody is helping him. So how about one of you you guys, give him your personal contact info, tell him you will go to Blade and look for a knife for him and sell to him for your cost?

Don't sit there an complain, help him.

Hahahahaha! How incredibly fitting.

Agreed, good one Fugawee... and so true.

What makes you so sure everyone is talking about you? If the shoe fits... right?

So how about it GregS. Why don't you send this guy your email address. Ask what Tank Buster he would like. Blade 2011 is in June. So you can go down there, look for his knife and hopefully find it and buy it for him. Then you can charge him what you paid for it. Then everyone is happy cause you are such a nice guy!

I'd be more than happy too... if I was going to blade. Why don't you be a nice guy and wave the 5% paypal from now on, with everyone.

I'll wave it just for you. So go and check out my knives. You know what Greg, since we are BFF, I'll even give you free shipping.

As for everyone else, there are no fees with USPS postal money order.

I tried to help him by taking time out of my work day to search through the exchange. I typed in "tank buster" only to find two pages of your for sale threads... You got guys trying to help him only to be negating by your profit driven sales approach. What does it say for our community when a new guy comes along and his first contact is a guy pushing inflated prices at him? How about you dig up a thread that demonstrates the low end of what he can pay as well as what you offer, and let him decide?

While you are looking, I'm looking for a Meaner Street Limited Edition or a Leaner Meaner Limited Edition at close to MSRP....

I thought we all were helping him with our comments such as

Welcome to the forum!

Please do a lot of research (just reading in the for sale area)
of the different models and what people are asking for them.
that will give you an idea of "going prices"
an educated buyer is rarely an unhappy one.
this is a good time to get a great price on the secondary market.

Welcome aboard Adam,

As was posted earlier, be sure to do plenty of research. Once you find some models you like use the search function in the Busse exchange to see what they've been selling for.

To give you a sense of the market, I sold a Tankbuster in excellent condition with a Kydex sheath for $345 shipped and paypalled a few months ago. It's a buyers market right now, a little patience goes a long way....

I would recommend buying a gold membership and putting up a "Want to Buy" for a Tankbuster and with a firm price you are willing to pay - people will contact you. I think that $330 to $360 shipped and paypalled is a fair price for a combat grade in new to excellent condition

400 is high by itself ....ask someone if they think it is a good price......

Underscore,
Welcome to the illness.
I've seen basically every knife I would be interested in come up on the exchange over the last month or two, and like the others mentioned it is a buyer's market.
I recommend you educate yourself as a consumer as to what any knife you might be interested in and decide ahead of time what it is that you are going to expect to pay total(including shipping and paypal).
Plenty of knives are around, take your time and read the exchange a lot.
Also, you will then have a good idea that the knife you want is really the knife you want.
Then when your knife pops up, you'll know for sure that is is the right knife and that you are getting a fair deal.
Be patient.

pete

Like others have mentioned, I think you can do better then 4 bills for that. Just be patient and review the exchange often. If your going to spend 400 though-you can get a nice bush whacker mistress - BWM - which is more bang for your buck imo. Always remember one thing also. Trust NO1!

it goes on and on in this thread if you read it.
Seems like you are taking this personally?
I didnt see anyone mention any names or anything.
Why are you getting upset?

now thats not really fair,
im sure if GregS snatched a great deal on a knife on the forum,
he would certainly sell it to the guy for, what, maybe at the MOST
a reasonable profit.

this thread is wandering and I dont like where its heading with those
personal attacks....

ANYWAY
back to the original question.....

I think you should do as many have said and search the "wanted to buy forum"
and see what a fair price is.

He's getting upset because he knows he's the only one with the nauseating pushy knife selling practices. Go to underscore's profile... who is THE ONLY one to immediately message him about a knife for sale?

Hey **** ers, I appreciate all the advice, help, suggestions. That said, there's no reason to be putting anyone on blast right now. I've been searching the exchange since hr 1 of my membership. It's more my fault than anything. I did not realize I was dreaming about a knife that isn't even made anymore. When I signed up, I had no clue on the limited production of these models, or how long ago this particular blade was produced.

There isn't exactly a flooded market when it comes to tank busters. Seems everyone that has one is in no hurry to dump theirs. There is a few around, but they're le's or customs. I'm wanting a user. Someone steped up and offered me what he had. Thank you for that. I don't expect a knife no longer produced to be cheap.

It is what it is. It's the knife I asked for and those are his prices. How bad do I want it? How much am I willing to pay to get it??

Let's try and get along here.

Listen. If people want to warn a new guy about parasite dealers, there's nothing wrong with that. If you think that you're included in that warning... then maybe you should re-examine your business practices.
