I'm a steel snob

Waste of my time and words IMO...

And a waste of ours, as well - since we are only talking about "opinions" (although yours are far more presumptuous than most).

We all like what we like. I will neither defend nor trumpet my choice of steels that work for ME, for MY applications, on MY knives, with MY edge geometry, at MY preferred HRC.

Your mileage will absolutely, definitely, positively vary. As will everyone else's, that has an "opinion" on the subject.

I've wasted far too many words already. Out.

If I told you what happened, would you even believed considering the fact I even posted the pics after you doubted my credibility of ever using these steels?

Waste of my time and words IMO...

I would have been more inclined to believe that your opinions were based on experience. But I would have also used my own judgement regarding whether or not what you did with those knives were appropriate for the steels they are made of, or the type of knives themselves.

I don't "love" or "hate" any steels. My only preference is stainless for folder blades because I don't like a blade that is prone to rusting in my pocket. So your opinions on steel don't have any effect on me.

Country of origin... China does make some nice stuff but they also make whole lot of garbage... Pakistan would go in same category.

Also sorry, but I'm not keeping track on your profile so I don't know what you buy. But your violent response in defense of China makes me think that's what you buy. As simple as that.

Felt ss if some people could relate therefore this thread was created. You felt need to jump in to defend beloved steels of People Republic of China, which is ofcourse something I guess. I just learned you really loved China.

In any event, your last post to EngrSorenson^ tells me all I need to know. Calling his post a "violent response in defense of China", saying things like "jump in to defend beloved steels of People Republic of China", etc, causes me to not take you seriously.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

IDC how many of you claim you didn't take his post personally - you did, and you know who you are.

He even admits he thinks he's steel snob and people here are discovering warm water in the comments by callig him steel snob... why? You expect him to throw away K390 and buy 8Cr13MoV to repent?
What do you want to accomplish? Insult him on personal level because he won't buy the steel that you like?

He said something bad about steel you like, he didn't insult your ancestors or something like that for you to have such response.

You accuse him of being a liar and it's not enough when he posts pics? What did you expect? A documentary? Live footage? I don't understand.
And why does it matter what he did when knives broke? Did he break your knives? Did he ask you to get him another one?

It's his money and his knives and his decision if he wants to abuse them. Some steels failed him and some he's still using. So he's at least discovering what works for him while using his knives. That's also part of his hobby. (I shoud probably put this text red or bold but IDK how to do that).

Everything can fail under enough force... some steels up there failed and some that he's using just didn't fail. Everyone's use is different and what failed him might be just good to you. Be happy for him to be able to purchase his higher end steels and enjoy them and be happy that those steels he avoids serve you well if you are one of those people.

I honestly expected more maturity from people on here... anyways now I'm out... possibly for another 6 months or more. But, see ya eventually.

Peace out.

Bruh, at this point the thread can just be closed if arguing is all we're gonna do. I'm not here to argue people on personal level.
I wanted to kinda share my experience so far, my experience indeed is very personal and it by no means 100% determines fate of every knife in steels I mentioned.
And I hoped that my experience would motivate some people to post their own stories about terrible steels. It didn't quite go that way LOL...

This hobby is a journey, and I remember steels through my experience with them.
Some steels are in bad memory and some are in good memory and still in use. But in any case I learn something even from every chip or roll and it further affects my purchases.

I at first entered knife world thinking all those huge prices (over 50€ was huge for me at a time)are crazy and I can do well for very cheap... but I was soon proven wrong.

Then I took a longer break, and then I started to actually look into steels and also at the same time - looked into really tough budget options, as my personal opinion is such that good quality blade should be available and affordable to everyone, and I just knew there are companies making that too - Mora and Glock. But I also kinda want my knives to be able to do more.

And I repeat, I'm not looking down at anyone for stuff they buy. That is personal choice. Whatever works for you is nice.
