I'm back again!

Welcome back, Uncle Bill!

Following James Mattis's suggestion, I hear scotch is a good antibiotic

So are you a basketball fan, by chance? Good time to be saddled by the TV, if so. If not ... well, there's always Pokemon!

Give that nurse a khukuri --

Uncle Bill: We are most glad to see you home. Don't rush the thing; do as the medics say, especially if the nurse is pretty. Seriously, though, be patient; these things take time, especially with us older boys. I will pray for you.

Welcome back Bill.

I hear Microsoft and La-Z-Boy are working on a recliner with built-in Web access in the arm (seriously).

If we all pitch in...

Thanks again, all. Alcohol and my current meds don't mix so I'm stuck with that constraint for 8 more days but I sure like the notion of the beer based chicken soup and a little Johnny Walker!!!!

I do watch the NBA when it gets down to finals and they are playing for keeps. It is something to do.

The laptop I want is a Toshiba that runs $2300 at Circuit City. Too much!

Welcome back Uncle Bill, and may this be your last medical trouble ever! Maybe you got all of them over with and out of the way

There's a rumor going around that beer is a good natural antibiotic, but check with your Doc about drug interactions with your meds. If given a choice between meds and beer, I would take the beer, but then I'm getting more into "natural medicine" (or at least "self-medication"

).

Tom, you are correct, but this really applies to beers that are well hopped. If a beer has little hops in it, the benefits would be questionable in this respect.

Uncle Bill, check out some of the dark ales or lagers as these would certainly be worth trying. A good India Pale Ale would be worth trying. Some of the dopplebocks would also be worth trying.

And stick around for a while this time. No more excuses.

Ahh...I see that we have a fellow forumite who is enamoured of good beer.

Psssssst...keep your voice down, but Uncle Bill drinks really really bad beer. I told him once upon a time that if he ever makes it to Columbus I'd buy him a real beer...but he seems to want to stick with his Heineken. I didn't have the heart to tell him that this is the Cold Steel LTC of the beer world.

Bill,
Up here in the Northwest we have a concoction that is a lash-up of sorts between Red Hook Brewery and Starbucks Coffee called Reb Hook Double Black, supposedly made with coffee as a part of the brew. All I know is that after drinking a pint of this gut-rooter I can blast what ails me through the eye of a needle at fifty paces. Heck of a beer! Computer wise, my Compaq laptop does a good job of whatever I need. Compaq has a good price/product spread and distribution is near hegemenous in scope. Gateway is also a good prospect with a solid rep. If battery life is important the Apple I-Book might work - otherwise batteries aren't worth cr## in the 1200$ price range. Mine was near 0 out of the box. Yes, Toshiba's highend stuff is legendary; in the realm of "affordable" though, there is more and better elsewhere. If you drink too much of that Red Hook I mentioned you might want Panasonic's 4300$ Mil-Spec "Toughbook."
Regards to all,
Leo

Welcom back, Uncle, and congrats your survival again and again from the beginning of this year. If it iterates three times, it will last ever. I don't mean troubles, but your luck and survival.

I suppose the last few months have proved your resiliency if nothing else...

and speaking as a Best Buy pc tech (
smile.gif
) stay away from the Toshiba. They look nice but we get piles of them back... HP's and Sonys are deacent choices. (both have deacent models in the $2300 range, and in the ~$1200-1600 range if youd rather not break the bank) As for computers we dont sell, the Dell and micron laptops are expensive but nice...

Just my experience... (and remember Best Buy salespeople are noncommisioned, not like those Circut City bloodsuckers
