Im confused

Shecky,
I am very guilty as charged, I almost spent a night in jail because of a legally owned firearm, a neighbor saw me, doing nothing illegal with it and called the police. I was handcuffed, detained and questioned, I did nothing wrong or illegal, yeah I try to keep under cover and away from the general public's eyes. Chris

Amazing and infuriating. I hope you have since been able to give that neighbor a little taste of her own medicine...

I for one like to feel as though I have an advantage over people. Call it selfish, call it what you want. It's even one of the reasons I go to the gym every day. Besides the obvious health benifits, it makes me warm and cozy inside to know that I might have a little more endurance and strength than the next guy. I like to think I'm more prepared than the next guy. That said, the only way I look different on a daily basis would be a leatherman showing on my belt and maybe good boots in the wrong situation. But I'm in the mountains and there's rarely the wrong situation.

Hey, I'm with HD.

But I live over 1100 feet above sea level and hundreds of miles from the coast. If I lived in Florida, being ready for a "major disaster" would doubtless be on my mind.

Worst problem likely here is power outages in Winter.

True. I have been w/o power at my house for over 2 weeks before. I have to switch to the kerosene and natural gas lights, use the crank up radio, and move all the food into the natural gas refrigerators in my cellar house.

My major bitch about being without power at this point is my new gas stove. The oven will not come on without electric. The old stove would run w/o electric. I can still cook on the burners. And I have a dutch oven so I can use that, but if they still exsist I want my next gas stove to have an oven I can bake in without electric.

HD, the last time I checked there are still some low end (24") gas ranges with spark ignition. These you can use without electricity if you are prepared to light the standby pilot with a match, etc. and are prepared to forfeit features such as self cleaning. Otherwise, the rest all use glow bar ignition for the oven.
