I'm done buying knives (with pics)

That's a nice Kershaw ET, I need to get one one day, it looks like fun from all the YouTube videos. Albeit not practical, it looks like fun.

Too many knives?!? Blasphemous come to mind. You can never have too many knives, they're too much fun not to indulge in.
But one day I'll find the "perfect" knife and I'll only need one knife and be in your boat. Hopefully no time soon.

I was actually done buying knives too because after I got a Benchmade 14205, it was all I ever wanted in a knife. It was a step up in quality compared to what I already had that it made the rest of my collection obsolete . . . however, I think I will have to buy one more knife (H1 Spyderhawk). I am a huge fan of hawkbills, and that knife is just too sweet to pass up. After that I think I really will be done.

I still like knives but need to find a new direction. It will probably be sharpening and then maybe I will try making them again.

Once I finally figured out how to sharpen to my liking and re-profile edges on knives, my knife accumulation habit has kind of taken a different direction. Up until that point, I'd focused on only buying knives that I knew already had the type of edge I wanted (usually more acute than what comes out of most factories). That usually meant I was spending more $$ on each knife (like your Spyderco Manix 2's in S90V; I also have two of those). Now, because I actually ENJOY re-profiling and sharpening, I become more enthused about buying a lot of the less expensive ones and putting newly profiled edges on them. It's amazing how good the less expensive knives can be when the edges are just as you want them to be. It's especially nice to pick up an old, well-used knife that some might regard as completely useless and make it wicked sharp again (or perhaps for the very first time in it's long life!). Lately, my obsession is with the simple, yet timelessly elegant good ol' sod buster variety. I'm spending less money and getting more satisfaction out of knives that previously didn't interest me as much. :)

i know nothing about you, but based on the pic and your post, you're a knife collector. and i bet $20 you buy another knife within the next month. ;)

cute puppy too.

Something tells me you are not finished with purchasing new or used knives (see my post on the addictive nature of this sport) but I could be mistaken. I am with zippin44 but suggest that you'll succumb within two months, perhaps sooner. Heck, you might stumble on to a few great finds at a local garage sale...or what about that late night love affair with e-bay?

Im kinda the same as you. I have a rotation of folders I like : Lrg seb 21, g10 endura (just new actually), para military and my good ol 710. I have a couple fixed blades--4 as well actually. So im done for now. I like my knives but I can't really fit in anymore. I have a few others I dont use so those Ill have to sell.

Just have to stop buying and start using instead :D

Again, thanks for all the replies!

There is a good chance there are some knives in my future. Maybe I should have said I'm not going to actively search for them to buy. I'm still trying to make myself not buy a second of one of my favorite knives to have as a backup. It's a good deal but I'm going to let it go. If I ever need another one I will trade for it.

I also have bought a lot of knives because I thought I would like it more than I do. If I had a place that I could hold knives that was local before a purchase I'm sure I wouldn't have bought a lot of them.

I got into the trading thing for a little bit but it seems like I mainly got lowball offers. And I would rather keep them than loose money on them and let them go. But I guess one day I will have to learn to do that if I plan on getting rid of a bunch.

Time will tell but for now I'm just saying no when it comes to new knives.

Thanks again!

Ryan

I'm coming to my 50th knife... May have passed 50, I'll have to check again. That's a lot of knives accumulated over a span of a year and I'm starting to feel the same way. To be honest out of the lot only 3 have gotten any serious use and they serve my needs well enough. I managed to sell 3 knives recently and that was quite a feat in itself. It felt horrible but something had to go. Will I thin the herd further? I will... If Spyderco stops producing new models or doing sprint runs on those I've missed out. Ok... Seriously... When I started out it was because I truly needed a good knife. Then I set a limit of 10 pieces max. That turned to 20 and so on. I'm going to take a break right after I get my hands on a Caly 3, 2 X G10 Dragonflies and a Ti Military. I may need to leave BF for a while to seriously achieve that.

A lot of nice knives. And notwithstanding abuse, I would say you have several lifetimes worth of knives. :)

I have stopped buying knives many times, but the power of rationalization is strong. :o I wish you luck in your test of will.

Nobody buys all those knives and then quits. Stop fooling yourself. You will make a a couple of months, maybe a year tops before there is a $100+ charge on your card and a knife on the way.

I will trade you a coupla real nice knives for your dog.

That is my baby and I wouldn't get rid of her for anything. I have her brother to he just wasn't around when I took the pic. They are about 10 months old now and both have great personalities. She is 7 pounds of awesomness and I'm usually not a small dog person.

I hear ya. Sometimes the sickness wanes a little or the money needs to go to more important things. Knives fade from the picture. Then I start looking at Caly 3's and other other fine knives, and I begin to sell knives to buy knives. Oh, well. Good thing I like em.

Folders... CHECK!

Now you just need to work on your fixed blade collection :D

Maybe it's a good thing you don't own any bark river knives, you may double your collection.

This is sage advice - I could not just stop at one barkie and now I'm up to four. I use them all and each serves a purpose. I think you should give one a try though, you'll fall in love!

While your at it, I think you need to add a Rat Cutlery Izula (less than $50) to your collection and possibly an RC3 or RC4 or (both) - they are worth it!

But be careful, once you get some of the smaller fixed blades, your days of carrying folders are numbered!

Beautiful collection btw!!!

I don't have nearly as many knives and I don't see myself getting that many unless I stumble across a large sum of extra spending cash. I usually reach somewhere between 6-15 knives and then start selling or trading for new stuff. So rather than continuing to acquire more and more knives, I tend to just sell and trade to get my fix for something new. The selling and trading, I don't see myself stopping that anytime soon.
