I'm getting a Glock knife!

Here's the convexed glock 81.

Am I the only who thinks it looks a bit like the Gerber mk2? If you added full serrations along one side of a mk2 I think they would look similar.

Coincidentally, I got to play with one the other day. My father in law pulled it out of a cabinet and tossed it to me after hearing my complaints about S&W knives. I was actually pretty impressed! He said he bought it for $20 on a whim and really likes it. I didn't get to cut anything or play in the woods with it but it feels solid enough and I'd take it over some other similar knives I've had. The edge was crap and badly needed to be attended to but otherwise it seemed like a good deal to me.

They don't come with a very good edge, and I've seen complaints about not being able to get 'em sharp, but I got a decent cutting edge on my beat-up one in about 20 minutes on a large whetstone that took a final polish with a few passes on ceramic rods.
Not razor sharp, but removes hair off my arm & cuts sheets of paper, and for this type of knife it's more than adequate.

The steel's hardened to 55 Rc, so it may need touching up a little more often than a KaBar depending on how you use it, but it's built to bend before it breaks, and if it does you can just bend it back again.

I was actually not expecting much before I took it up the hill & abused it, but after I got done I had a bit more respect for the thing.
Still not the most ideal blade configuration for chopping, skinning or slicing, but as a multi-purpose tool it does have value.

Tom-
You tried out the bottle opener guard yet?

I personally use the simple ideology, Glock is not a knife company. They do what they do well, but they aren't a knife company.

Personally I'd drop that $30 into a knife making company over a firearm company. That's just me though.

They aren't an E-Tool company either, but the one they make is totally bombproof. I have beat the hell out of it and it's great.

I bought some of those Glock knives for friends when I worked at a power plant, but I haven't had the funds to pull the trigger for myself quite yet.

This is not possible. Everyone knows you cannot cut with a knife that costs less than $100.

I would guess, based purely on the name alone, that it is possibly a knife made by popular handgun manufacturer, Glock. Just a guess...

They work! but only in .45 caliber. The 9mm Glock knives are mouse knives, no knock down power. Where have you been? duh!

Yup. Works well.

I beat the crap out of an early Model 81 just to see what it would take to break one of these knives. I got tired of trying. I threw it at trees, (not a bad throwing knife, actually) dug holes in rocky ground, sawed though tree roots, split stakes for a tent and cut open a number of sealed ammo cans. (for an AK rifle) No damage except to the blade finish and gee, the knife would still actually cut stuff.

And as Denis mentioned, the handguard will open bottles.

The Glock knives are kinda' like the Glock pistols....they grow on you the more you use them.

firm believer in all things Glock.
the model 78 is no exception.
most i've seen don't come with a fine point but instead a kinda squared off tip.
i don't know if this is just a QC thing or made intentionally.
however, there are some well pointed ones too...go figure!

Mine came with blunt tip too, I thought it was faulty one but it seems that most of them have that. No problems, just a little while with mousepad and sandpaper fixed that.

Talking of glock knives, I think I have to get some more. Too bad they are a bit overpriced here, although still relatively cheap. They lack finesse, but they are tough for sure.

Decent knife in my experience. It'll never be like a straight razor but it can be made sharp with a bit of effort. It's a field knife for military purposes so it can take it's share of rough use and survive. I don't like the sheath very much but it works.

And hey, it makes for a usable ice pick as well. :D

One thing that I thought about that nobody mentioned. I have a black 81 also and I like that loud click you hear when you sheath the knife. POP:D

And Hogue is a gun grip company but they make badass knives.

Sorry I couldn't resist..

I've always wanted the GK just never made it happen, its a solid knife you can beat to death and it will keep on going. The saw back was intended for roots, but actually it only excels in notching as shown in pics.. I'd get the 78 if it were me, then again if I were buying a knife for 'outdoor activities' it wouldn't be a glock.. if you just want a knife to have with you outdoors for minimal service then its for you.. and yes all my knives are beaters!! I use to collect them but now I wont have a gun or knife that I'm not afraid to get dirty, some get used more then others.. but they're all users...

dang, a few years ago, i went Glock crazy for part of my wifes Christmas gifts. i got her a all kind of glock gifts, range bag, decals pen etc, and a GK, and she checked it out, then said "this will be my nightstand knife, right next to Gloria"... she has named all 3 of her glocks with girls names that begin with "G". anyway, back on topic, im gonna have to take the knife outside and put it through some paces.
