I'm getting a Glock knife!

I convexed my OD green one. That finally got me an edge I am happy with on that thing. I sold my black one to a buddy 'cause mine was un-used...the green one pretty beat.

Not a big fan of the Glock Field knife. In my mind $30 is too much for what is essentially a cheap knife...not way too much...but too much. You can get a better knife with better steel for $12 if you just buy a Mora...3 Moras actually. Of course none of the Moras are going to be a tough as a Glock Field Knife. Can't fault that knife for toughness that's for sure...probably the roughest toughest $30 knife on the planet...so that's a plus. The sheath is about the best non-Kydex, non-leather sheath on the market too...another big plus.

I think, all things considered, if I had to change just one thing, I'd ask that blade be wider by half and inch.

Me, I'd get a Ka-Bar, and ESEE-4, or a fistful of Moras over the Glock M-78. I just wanted to like mine more (being sort of a Glock guy too) than I ever really did.

You wanna hear a good joke? Some here sell them for 50€! :D
But I got to agree, even $30 is a bit too much for what it is. Maybe $20-15 would make it delightful abuser that you could buy for dirty jobs or as military poking stick.

Great post. I've been itching to buy my first "Survival Knife" to add to my bugout kit and I do believe the Glock knife is what I've been looking for.

On a side note, the first thing I thought of was this WWII German serrated bayonet when I saw pics of the Glock Knife:

I've read that German soldiers who were found with this bayonet were shot for having one on their possession. Dunno if that's true since I'm not an historian.

Anyway, just thought the similarities between these two blades was interesting, considering their German/Austrian roots.

Normally you would want the teeth on that blade to cut while pulling not pushing. If the knife hangs up while pushing very bad things can happen. Don't fool yourself into thinking that guard will protect you from anything but minor hangups.

The KaBars I've had with saw backs were all cut on pull so if they hung up the work thing that could happen is the knife slipps out of your hand.

Take care when using that knife as a saw.

Well, i've been in a delusion of owning this and that. I wanted a ZT 121, a strider, spyderco, etc. I realized christmas is coming around the block and i need to be on a budget. I have many 2-3 fixed blades for work, a fairly new Cold Steel Counter tac I for self defense. And i said, heck i'm getting a plain jane Glock knife for outdoor activities. It's cheap $30, and it's pretty practical.Even more it's a Glock, i'm a Glock dude. And the other thing i wanted to ask you all, do you guys really use your $70-100+ knives?Like, pound it on the wood, cut wood with it, and just plain smash it? For me i'm getting a $30 Glock knife, just staing cheap for my next buy. :foot:

Google image something like used/destroyed:Busse,Strider,and RAT/ESEE knives.
Not only do people use their $70-$100 dollar knives, They DESTROY their $100-$500 plus knives. Haven't you seen the hockeymask guy on youtube? ;)

May I suggest a Becker BK2?? Can be had for $60 shipped with a 1/4" spine 5 1/2" blade, and can pry a trunk open.. did I mention it can be found for $60 shipped??

LastDaze,

The BK's are right at the top of the list as well. After all, I didn't say I was going to get the Glock knife--and ONLY the Glock knife...:D

Those BK's are the business, no doubt about it.

Best,

Heekma

Wow, can't believe this thread is up and alive! I added the BK-2 already as of May 2010 this year! Great knife!

I have an old black G78. Just placed an order for an olive G78 and a black G81 today. Two beater knives for less than $60, including shipping. :) I think I'm going to give the convex edge treatment a try.
