I'm getting steamed over Ebay counterfeits!

. You seem to be as upset with my post as I am by counterfeiters. Talking about calling the kettle black. I suppose you know what you can do with your snarky sarcasm, right . :D

You're not the OP, so I wasn't even talking to you. I'm told that reading comprehension is a valuable skill, but that's none of MY business.

No sweat, King. I hadn't seen that it was a zombie thread, so I was digging for something positive there. Kinda like tripping, recovering real quick, and firing off a quick "I meant to do that!" :)

I did appreciate the heads up though. Thanks for nudging me and pointing. Yer from Burien... I dig that.

Zombie threads are usually more easily identified than this one, and you give good advice so there's really no harm done. :)

Glad to see another from WA, you've been at this a lot longer than I, though.

The problem will become worse, much worse. Counterfeit products in general are getting higher end - better materials, better packaging, and better use value. Meaning some people can buy a fake knife and use it and never know it isn't the real thing. Maybe it won't have the same blade steel, but most people would never know if you used 440C instead of XDP anyway, since they will likely never push the knife beyond cutting open envelopes.

And even if they do push it, what then? Will manufacturers need to use fracture mechanics or chemical analysis to determine if they made a knife? A manufacturer could easily end up servicing a knife under warranty that they didn't even make. I would bet this is already happening today. Maybe special identification markings will likely be needed to tell one from another, and these will have to be marks that no one outside the factory knows about, otherwise they will be faked as well.

As fakes increase in production quality, their prices go up, and second generation fakes come along to cover the lower end of the market. Now you have fakes based on fakes.

I get that us well-informed knife-buyers can mitigate this by purchasing from dealers and other reliable sources, but I would imagine there is a much larger portion of the market that simply looks for the lowest price they can find. And I also imagine this market segment outnumbers us "smart" buyers by a large margin.

How right you are!!

LOL

P.S. Lighten up, guy. Life is entirely too short to spend emotional capital getting bent outta shape over something that doesn't really affect your life one way or another.

There you go...calling the kettle black again. Glass houses.

At this point, I kiiiiinda feel like you're arguing with something that you think I said, but didn't actually say. So, I'm out of here before this gets any more pointless and stupid. Have a good day, and go you with that waste-of-time Ebay fight. LOL

The best part for me is that I'm one of those mentally defective people that prefer combo edge knives and I've noticed there are very few faked combo edge knives it seems. Usually the fakers just do the plain edge versions.

I just spent a half hour sending Ebay notices on auctions for fake, Cold Steel AK47, knives coming out of China. They all have black blades and no locks on the side, so those are easy. If we each did that for a knife we knew were bogus maybe we can slow the buggers down some. Not all the fakes come directly from China, people are buying them off Chinese websites and reselling them on Ebay. This really starting to Piss me off.

Problem is a lot of people end up reporting legit knives because they are not aware of changes in product. For instance the ak 47 from cold steel was at one point available with the lock on the side of the handle but new ones for the last few years have a regular triad lock. So if you are reporting auctions for those knives based on the lock type you may be reporting a legit knife. Many on ebay use stock googled pics and as such sometimes a fake pic can be put up for a legit knife. Most people who sell the stuff ONLY sell the stuff and cant tell a fake by a picture. There are plenty of fakes on ebay its for sure. But if they shut down every auction due to a counterfeit claim even the legit stuff would disappear with so many false reports. And i dont think much slowing down will occur even if they do get the right auctions pulled. They just make a new account.
