Last month I bid on a Schrade knife Display containing 5 knives, that the seller listed as MINT.
As I had a set the same as this one in my collection already, I bid top dollar for this “Mint set”.
However, Living in Australia, ment the Postage Costs are high between the U.S. and Australia.

When the Display arrived,
I sent it back to the seller for “A full refund” – as I believe the Display was not “As the seller had described it”.

My postage cost to send the Display back to the seller was almost A$70.

The seller gave me a full refund, and left this feedback on ebay, NOT A RECOMMENDED BUYER.

As a buyer, did I do something wrong? Sending this “Mint Display” back to this seller, who often sells knives on ebay?

This is the first time I have run into a seller like this on ebay in many years buying knives, Just look at my feedback.

I've about given up on Ebay, for both buying and selling. It's so thoroughly scammed that its no better than Craig's List. The scammers are a pity because a public resource like this is important. However, since you got that review it's fairly important to counter it and give your side of the story. If not, it closes the book on you.

I refuse to buy anything off of ebay, there are too many shady people doing business on the site.

what was wrong with it?

I'm thinking the *water spot/stain* visible in the upper left wasn't exactly "Mint" maybe...?

Seller was describing the knives as mint and the display case as nice with glass. Unless the knives are less than mint you had no beef. Sellers feedback for you was a proper response. Like Karda said the water spot was visible in the pictures.

After a little investigation into feedback left. This is what apparently happened:

Feedback Koldgold left for seller:

Neutral feedback rating SELLER GAVE A FULL REFUND - HIS DESCRIPTION WAS VERY COSTLY FOR US BOTH. Buyer:

Only my opinion FWIW:

It always surprises me that people can sell such expensive items with only a few pictures. If this were my auction, I would have taken at least 2 shots of every knife outside the case, then take picture of the discolorations on the display. There is no way that this should have been listed as "mint". It would have been useful to go through each knife included and list its condition. This is a poor SELLER.

On the flip side of the argument, if you do click through to the "Auctiva" site where you can view enlarged pictures, you can see rust spots on the blades, and discoloration on the display case. It is the BUYERS responsibility to evaluate these photos.

All in all, and just my opinion, but I believe both buyer and seller made errors. The neutral feedback left for the seller was more than generous. The "retaliatory" feedback received from the seller was out of line.

If you call ebay they'll remove his comment. It's against ebay feedback rules to leave a negative comment on positive feedback.

Shouldn't have been listed as "mint". You were lead astray with narrative chicanery. Ebay is the devils playground!

No you should file a complaint on that seller with Ebay. I have always had good luck buying from sellers on Ebay, but you have to know how to shop on Ebay so you don't get ripped off. Even so sometimes your going to have problems with a seller, its not Ebay's fault at all, they have a dispute settlement department. I have found Amazon sellers have lot better prices than Ebay sellers do. I still shop and occasionally buy on Ebay and I have for years and have had some minor problems with sellers but nothing like this.

You just posted one of his pictures from the original auction to prove your point. You didn't look at them before bidding? Don't you see a problem with that?

You were lucky that he paid the return postage, most sellers won't do that. I think the comment was fair.

I do think you did something wrong, sorry.:D

You didn't read properly: "GREAT SET OF 5 KNIVES MARKED SCHRADE + USA LTD, ALL ARE ETCHED "SPECIAL EDITION" WITH SCHRADE SHIELD, ALL ARE MINT & GORGEOUS"

It doesn't say anywhere the display case is mint. It says the knives are mint.
It says this about the case:
"COMES IN NICE WOOD & GALSS DISPALY CASE"

Also nowhere else in the listing is the state of the items mentioned. (not even in the title or in the appropriate "item condition" box) So this is not a misrepresentation from the seller.

Also, you apparently did not check the picture the seller used in his listing.

Edit.
I think you at least should change your feedback to positive. And if you really want to do the right thing, pay him back the return postage he paid you.

I agree with this. These are the reasons why so many people are hesitant to ship anything overseas, no matter what it is these days. Sometimes, it's simply not worth the hassle, and yes this was a hassle. Why? Because it was worthy of someone feeling the need to start a thread over it, and it cost someone time and money to ship it to the other side of the planet, only to have it come back because the photos were not reviewed and the description was not read properly.

Apparently they were far from mint, "RUSTY KNIVES WITH CRACKED BONE SCALES". IMO if someone lists an item as MINT, the expectation is the knife is in mint condition. If it is falsely advertised i feel the seller should pay return shipping as well. Some may say the buyer should have been more cautious but i believe it is on the seller to be more forthright. This is also a reason people are drawn to sites like Amazon. Even if the item isn't as expected, generally no hassles with returns (and paid postage).

Where did you get the "RUSTY KNIVES WITH CRACKED BONE SCALES" text? The OP states the display was not mint, I don't read anything about the knives.

I like Amazon for the reason you described. I just wish the German and British Amazon would have US prices.
