I'm Off to Texas!!!!

Airplanes fly both ways day and night. And you can always come back if you don't like but I doubt that will be the case.
Best of luck

Welcome to Texas Phil! :D

We have lots of agents around the Houston area. Good people.

The day has finally come, I leave for Houston today.
It's been a long time since I've been this excited about anything, maybe my first Blade show (2001).

I'll probably be out of Chat for a while, but I should be able to post here either tonight or tomorrow. If anyone has sent an email to my Gmail account I'll get back to you soon. I haven't been able to access the account from my old iMac.

I guess that's it....

I'm alive and well and living in Houston.

I arrived saefly on Wed. afternoon, checked into my hotel and started to get settled into my new office. My office in NYC was nice, my new office is beautiful. I don't have a car here yet, so I walk to work, (about a 12 minute commute).

Almost everything that I shipped from NY has arrived including all of my knives and my iMac 17" flatscreen. I left my wife the older iMac. I'm on my bosses computer today because I don't have Internet access in my office yet. I also don't have access to my email account, but I should by next week.

I spoke to my wife a couple of times and everything seems fine at home. I've been real busy unpacking and getting settled. I should be up to speed by next week. I've already started booking appointments.

One of my favorite things is the health club in my office building. I got in my first workout today. I only did about 10 minutes on the exercise bike and about 20 minutes on the machines, it was fine for a start. I'd like to get it up to an hour a day on the exercise bike. That should help knock off some of this blubber I've been carrying around.

This move is going to take some getting used to, but I'm still really excited about the opportunity I have here.

I miss the crew from Chat and I hope some of you will hit this thread until I can get back in there.

'til then Adios!

Life can be just a series of missed opportunities.
Glad you took the shot and to hear this one is going well.
Some of us actually like you.
We look forward to seeing you in the chat

Way to go Phill youir positive attitude will make your move a success. I read once that man should change every 5 years to grow, you are making a good start.
Good Luck Friend

Hey Tex :) the chat room hasn't been the same without yall. :) You are really missing some good times in there.

Bill, I miss Chat also, it would nice to have some friends to chew the fat with.

I'm sitting in my hotel looby using their Internet access to get mail from my Gmail account. For some reason I can't access it from my bosses computer. I'm also trying to setup a wireless network with his pc to my iMac, but it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Once I get it up and running I'll be back in chat.

Say "Hello!" to rest rest of the crew, and ask them to hit this thread every once in a while.

Later.

Hey Phil, glad to hear that you made it and are getting settled in. I have been trying to hit the gym a little more this year also and we have a office pool going on who can lose the most weight by April. I am unfortunately in 3rd place out of 4 contestants. The Spirit of Steel show is up my way in Sept and I hope you can make it up for that as a lot of the Arkansas crowd will make that show and a lot of great knives to be had. You know that now that you are in Texas that you are required to buy at least one gun right? :) Hope to see you back in chat soon!

Phil, glad you made it safely. We definately miss you in chat.

I really hope you make it to Blade. I just found it that I actually am gonna make it this year. Will be my 4th year in a row.

Have fun in Texas. Been there a few times and it is a really nice place. I've got my resume sent out to some schools in the state as well. Wouldn't mind getting back to that area of the country.

Have fun and take care man.

Well, I've been in Houston two weeks today, I'm fine and everything is going well. I finally got Internet access on my computer today and I should be able to get into Chat tonight.

On the bad side, looking at my finances and my schedule it's not looking too good for Blade Show this year. :(

I go home in April for my wife's birthday and then I'm looking to complete the move from NY to Houston in August. With a new car and everything else I think I'm just going to be way over-extended.

We'll make sure to geet your spirit there Phil!

As they say around here:

"Welcome South Brother"

Good luck in Houston, PhilL! You'll be missed at the NY Shows, but I'm sure it's exciting to open a new chapter in your life. No doubt we'll see you around here alot.

It's been a couple of weeks since I updated this thread.
I been mostly working 7 days a week somethimes 12 hours a day. There's a gym in the building and I've been using the treadmill about 5 days a week. With my walk to and from the hotel I was probably doing about 25 miles a week.
I say was because I finally got my Texas Drivers License and a new car.

I picked it up at the dealer last night. I moved out of the motel I was staying and and got myself an efficiency aprtment. Now at least I can cook for myself save money on eating out. The difference between the cost of the motel and the new apartment pays for the car.

This is the first car I've owned since 1976. I was living in Manhattan then and really didn't need a car. Same thing in Brooklyn. In Houston you need a car.
I got a 2005 Toyota Camry LE fully loaded except for the sunroof. Been running errands all day today that I just couldn't do until I got the car.

If I had stayed in NY I probably would have never owned a car again, just rent when I really needed to. But, it sure feels good to be back behind the wheel.
